The Meaning Of My Name

My name, Cecilia, comes from the Latin word caecus, meaning “blind.” For most of my life, I found it ironic, almost as if fate had its own playful way of foreshadowing my journey. As someone who is gradually losing my sight, it’s a name that has always held a deeper significance for me.

Yet, instead of seeing this as a limitation, I view it as a source of inspiration. The meaning of my name reminds me daily that “blindness” is not just about what I can’t see—it’s about embracing the world in new and unexpected ways. It’s about finding vision where others may not, whether that’s through creativity, touch, sound, or pure determination.

My journey has been full of challenges, but it’s also led me to explore and design the world differently, with an eye (pun intended) for accessibility and inclusion. In many ways, I believe I was meant to carry this name—Cecilia. It serves as a powerful reminder that what may seem like irony is often life’s way of guiding us to a deeper purpose.

So here’s to embracing every meaning, every twist, and every challenge—and finding light even in the darkest places.
