In 1922, Knucky was remodeling Copsewood Manor and discovered a previously hidden doorway leading to a corridor. Afterward following the corridor, at the end, he discovered a large Chamber. There was a carved pentagram on the floor and strange symbols and incantations written on the walls. There were many books and candles on a multitude of shelves and piled on desks in a haphazard fashion. Upon entering the room, the cold logs in the fireplace burst into flame along with all the candles. There is a copper tang to the air. The light illuminates all the strange symbols on the walls and the large pentagram on the wooden floor. There is an alter on the far side of the pentagram with an open book laying upon it. He feels drawn to the book in a way he can't quite describe. He carefully skirts the Pentagram and approaches the book on the alter. Upon viewing the contents of the book, he realizes that the handwriting belonged to his father. He begins to read as his curiosity turns to excitement. He realizes that it's a journal describing his fathers quest for power and knowledge of the occult. It's filled with notes, spells, and demon names.
He immediately realized the potential of his find. He dove headlong into the research that he thought would bring him power, prestige, and wealth.
One night in August 1924, after 2 years of study and preparation, he felt he was ready to open a doorway between our reality and that of Hell. His purpose was to make a deal with the Devil, completing his bid for power. That was the last moment things went exactly as planned. He had conspired with his Uncle, whom had raised him, to produce a young girl, his cousin, with the intent from birth to be a sacrifice in a similar ritual. Her name was Ada.
At the beginning of the ritual, while chanting, he plunged the razor sharp ceremonial dagger into her chest, directly through the center of her sternum, careful not to puncture her heart. Even through her screams and gasps for air with blood bubbling from her lips, he was methodical and uncaring of her torment. The heart was still beating when he removed it from her chest. While blood was still pumping from the removed organ, he took a large bite, swallowing the lump of flesh in a gluttonous display. The blood was so fresh it was almost scalding to his tongue and face as it dripped down his chin. He began to Chant "Salve ad Domum Cadaveris". At that exact moment, all the candles and fireplace release a blast of flame into the air and promptly die out, leaving the room in pitch black.
A red light similar to an ember in a dieing fire begins to fill the pentagram, slowly getting brighter. A presence seems to fill the center of the pentagram even though there is nothing to see other than a haze of heat mirage. Suddenly Knucky hears a voice seemingly from nowhere and everywhere at the same time circling his head. He can't quite make out the words, but images began flickering through his head faster than he can keep up with of potential futures. Wealth, women, power, corruption, the ultimate in affluence. "So nice to meet you. I trust you know my name", it finally verbalizes in his ears.
"Yes, my Lord!" he cries out falling to his knees in ecstasy.
"what is it you wish of me", the voice asks.
"I wish to become unto a god on earth!" he responds, tears falling down his cheeks to mingle with the drying blood on his chin.
"Oh, no, child. You misunderstand me. I'm not here to do your bidding. You are here to do mine. I've been trapped for two millineum, bound to the frozen and burning planes of hell. You have finally given me a new portal into this realm and I will not release it again."
With the sudden horror of this realization, Knucky feels his hopes and dreams start to crash in on him.
The voice whispers to him again, "But fear not, for I recognize that it would not have happened without you. You will have some power in my army of demons. But you will be my gatekeeper and defend this portal for me. You will have demons and spirits to aid you. You will sacrifice any who dare enter your domain."
The pain that hits Knucky is so sudden that it steals his breath as he falls flat on the earth and begins to convulse as he feels his bones snap and stretch into new shapes never intended for the human form. What stands up moments later is a monstrous parody of what once was Enoch Kosgrove.
"Yes, my Lord" he slurs around his new unfamiliar fangs.
