Today we proudly celebrate Susan Hamlette-Mayers, recipient of the 2026 Good Scout Award.
Susan's lifelong commitment to education, preservation, and community service reflects the very spirit of Jerseyland. As a Plainfield native, educator, entrepreneur, oral historian, and dedicated volunteer with the Preserve Shady Rest Committee, she has spent countless hours ensuring that the stories, achievements, and legacy of our community are preserved for future generations.
Her work reminds us that history is not simply something we inherit. It is something we protect, share, and pass forward.

This year’s program, themed “The Legacy of Unselfish Community Service,” is dedicated to recognizing individuals whose commitment, leadership, and service have left a lasting and meaningful impact on our community. These gentlemen was selected with great care, reflecting the profound influence and example set through years of dedication and service.
The event will include reflections from family members and community leaders who have been touched by their legacy of service. Light refreshments will be provided.
It would be our distinct honor to recognize them during this special observance. Your presence would add great meaning to the program and serve as an inspiration to all in attendance.
