Big Wins for Shubanjali at 2026 NJ Natyasangam!

We are bursting with pride! Our alumni students recently took the stage at the New Jersey Natyasangam (NJNS) competition, and their hard work truly paid off. After weeks of intense rehearsals, they brought incredible energy to the stage and took home 2nd Place in the Senior Group Competition! 🏆Congratulations to the winners - Shreenidhi Ravishankar, Ria Madhu, Sanjukta Srinivasan, Krishna Ravindran and Shriya Iyer)

The talent didn't stop there. We want to give a massive shoutout to our soloists who fought through massive pools of talent to reach the finals:

✨ Sanjukta Srinivasan (Senior Category): Placed in the Top 7 out of 20 contestants!

✨ Krishna Ravindran (Intermediate Category): Placed in the Top 10 out of 45 contestants!

This year’s competition felt extra special. We were thrilled to see Shubanjali alum Swathi Jaisankar serving on the judging panel! It was an inspiring "then vs. now" moment—Swathi actually won the Senior Category at the very first NJNS 10 years ago. Talk about a beautiful legacy!

Success like this is only possible with world-class mentorship. A heartfelt thank you to our gurus, Smt. Suba Ramesh Parmar and Sri Swamimalai K. Suresh, for their unwavering guidance and for constantly pushing our dancers to reach new heights.

Congratulations to all our dancers for representing Shubanjali with such grace and passion. We are so proud of you! 💃✨

✨ A Journey of Stillness and Soul: Embodied Practice in Jain Yoga ✨
We are still vibrating from the incredible energy at Florida International University this past Friday! Our Annual Jayanti Lecture was a resounding success, bringing together over 150 guests from the FIU community and beyond to explore the profound traditions of Jain Yoga.

🧘 Reflections on Jain Yoga
Our esteemed guest speaker, Samani Pratibha Pragya, Ph.D., a senior disciple in the Terapanth lineage and Visiting Assistant Professor at FIU, guided us through a fascinating historical exploration of āsana. She brilliantly traced the evolution of yogic postures from their roots in ancient ascetic penance (tapas) to their modern adaptations for health and wellbeing. Her deep research into Jain meditation and philosophy truly illuminated how these physical practices support the ultimate goal of contemplative life.

💃 A Heartfelt Offering
The evening was further elevated by a moving performance from Guru Suba Parmar, the Artistic Director of Shubanjali. She offered a beautiful and heartfelt rendition of the Preksha Dhyan Geet, penned by Acharya Tulsi. Through her masterful expressions, Guru Suba brought to life the vital importance of embracing meditation in our daily lives, leaving the audience in a state of true Ananda (bliss).

🌱 Community & Connection
The night concluded with a vibrant Indian vegan dinner, allowing our 150+ guests to share reflections and connect over the shared values of nonviolence and mindfulness.

A huge thank you to the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs, the Department of Religious Studies, and the Jain Education and Research Foundation for co-sponsoring this enlightening event.

ANANDA - A Journey through Bliss," staged at Franklin Middle School in Somerset on August 24, 2025, was a resounding success, bringing to life the culmination of five decades of Guru Suba Parmar's initiation into the art of Bharatanatyam and 33 years of service in the US.

The production, featuring over 50 talented students of Shubanjali, was a testament to the power of traditional Indian dance and music. With its intricate choreography and stunning live orchestra performance, the show was a visual and auditory treat.

Guru Suba Parmar's conceptualization and choreography, combined with Guru Swamimalai Suresh's vocal, Choreography and nattuvangam expertise, created a truly immersive experience. The supporting musicians, including Shri Saktivel Muruganandam on mridangam, Shri Sigamani Natarajan on violin, and Shri Sunil Kumar on flute, added depth and richness to the performance.

The show's success was evident in the applause and admiration from the audience. "ANANDA - A Journey through Bliss" was a fitting finale to the 3-city tour of India spreading joy in the cities of Mumbai, Chennai and Tirunelveli and a celebration of Guru Suba Parmar's legacy in the world of Bharatanatyam. Kudos to the entire team of Shubanjali for bringing this incredible production to life.

Enjoy some special moments from the performance. A big thankyou to Samuel Gunabalan, Fotolaya and Mr. Girish ( Shubanjali parent) for the beautiful pictures)
