Schuylkill Haven’s first private school was originally located at 340 Haven Street, now home of the Schuylkill Haven Community Center. Created by Dr. Ignatius M. Bedlam, the school was opened to the areas most gifted and promising youth and was staffed by the areas finest teachers, cafeteria workers, and janitorial staff. Sadly in October, two years after the school was opened, several students mysteriously disappeared after last being seen at the school. Local authorities conducted an investigation and determined the students to be runaways. The following October, two more students vanished on trick or treat night. Rumors began to spread that Dr. Bedlam and his staff were somehow responsible for the disappearances. A search of the building by local authorities discovered evidence linking Dr. Bedlam and his staff to the missing students. Dr. Bedlam departed prior to being questioned. He was never located and shortly after the school closed. Today, residents old enough to remember the story, refer to the building as HORROR HIGH and on October 30th the nightmare returns!
