Here's what's happening this September at Via Aquarium 🌊

We have a great slate of educational and entertaining events to kickoff Fall this September! As always, our goal is to put on high-quality programming that inspires you to connect with marine life and build a desire to protect it!

Here's our full rundown of events:

9/5: Member Appreciation Day
- Early 10AM open for members (regular 11AM admission for general guests after that)
- Donuts, mini bagels, beverages provided

9/7: Labor Day
- Early 10AM open to help spread out the holiday crowd

9/18: Fondue & Flannels Adult Only Date Night
- Chocolate fondue with caramel, apples, marshmallows, strawberries, pretzels
- 6pm-8pm

9/19: LEGO Day
- Snapology will be here instructing guests how to assemble motorized Lego kits

9/26: Fossil Day
- Thacher Park will be tabling for us to provide an program on fossils
- We'll provide a make your own fossil craft

9/27: Bingo & Bites
- Food trucks throughout the day along with our bingo activity

What a month it has been!

We've had a fantastic August here at Via Aquarium full of educational events, entertaining guests, and inspiring moments.

But if you missed out - don't worry!

This September, we have a full slate of great events to help you learn about our animals and create a deep connection that lasts a lifetime. Each one is focused on high-quality education, wholesome entertainment, and (most importantly) developing that connection with our community!

Our staff is fully dedicated to showing you the wonders of the aquatic world so that you can have an experience like no other here in the Capital Region.

Let's Celebrate the End of Summer! 🎉☀️

On August 28th and 29th, we'll have having 2 Glow Parties - where you can experience the Aquarium through our black lights for a completely unique experience.

The 28th will be our monthly Adults Only event from 6-8pm - so bring a friend, a date, or call your mom and plan a great evening out together (she'll love that).

The 29th is our big End of Summer Party to give the Capital Region kids one last blast before heading back to school! There will be plenty of fun, family-friendly activities in addition to the blacklights throughout this event.

What do you wish people knew about Via Aquarium? 🧐 🌊

Today, our exceptional staff member Meghan explains one of our main purposes here at Via Aquarium.

Education is a huge part of our work here!

So much of the disconnect between society and our planet comes from a lack of knowledge and understanding. It's hard to connect with someone we don't know. And if we don't connect, it's hard to love, and then want to protect.

Which is why it all starts with knowing and understanding.

Our goal for you when you visit us to is to get to know and understand the incredible animals that we have the privilege to care for. Once you develop that knowledge and understanding, we can begin to build that connection, that love, and that desire to protect.

Thankfully, we have people like Meghan who are here for that exact purpose:

To help YOU know, understand, connect with, and love our animals!

Moments of wonder from our August events! 🦈 🌊

Every month, we put together as many educational, entertaining, and inspirational events as we can. So we can serve our community, create connections to the natural world, and provide you a wonderful time with friends and family. In other words:

It's all about YOU!

So far this August we've had some fantastic experiences, including a hot sauce tasting challenge, visits from real life pirates, an exercise class, and sweet tastings of honey and root beer floats. It's been an amazing summer here at the aquarium!

But if you've missed out so far - don't worry!

We are ending summer with a bang. The rest of August is filled with some of our best events yet!

We had a surprise proposal! 💍

We were so honored to put this together for such a lovely couple. As they reached our incredible tunnels, our Aquarist Kira pulled out a surprise proposal sign from underwater! It took quite a bit of coordination, but the timing worked out perfectly.

We're thrilled to have helped to create a special memory for this couple. It's another way we love to serve our community here at the aquarium!

Do turtles have feelings? 🐢 🧐

It turns out, our Red Foot Tortoises have feel a range of emotions, which we make sure to recognize so we can give them the best care possible!

In this edition of "Animal of the Week", our resident Reptile Expert Randy shares out the Redfoot Tortoise, like our friend Moon Biscuit, expresses his emotions through play, puzzles, and lovely backscratches!
