2200 Sound

2200 Sound 2200 Sound is a new and exciting edition to Sausalito and Marin's music scene, creating a place where musicians of all ages can come together.

Legendary Past

The Plant opened in 1972 and was one of three studios operated by The Record Plant, a recording company. Over the years everyone from the likes of Fleetwood Mac (which recorded their album “Rumours” in Studio A) and Metallica to the Dave Matthew’s Band and Carlos Santana have used the facility. In 2008, after a long and famous history, the recording studio closed its doors. Our Vis

The Plant will be structured as a social enterprise. Revenue will be generated through a membership model, which starts at about $65 per month (Think TechShop meets music.). Although it will continue to offer recording space, its primary focus will be to provide a place where musicians can come together to collaborate. Members, who will pay a monthly/annual membership, will have the ability to learn, play, teach, and create music by participating in classes, workshops and renting rehearsal space. About Us

The idea to reimagine the Plant as a music community that welcomes youth came as an outgrowth of Youth Rock the Rebuild. Youth Rock the Rebuild was started in 2008 with just 20 students. Since then the informal organization has grown to include more than 120 young musicians representing 15 of the area’s K-12 schools. The group hosts two concerts each school year, with dozens of youth bands and solo artists performing at each event. Since 2008 we have raised more than $60,000 to support various charitable organizations such as the Windhorse foundation, Architecture for Humanity, Students Rebuild and Kiddo!

Ken Caillat is hoping to buy the Plant to realize the vision of preserving it as an active recording space.

2200 Sound is excited to share that we are partnering with Freq Lab Recording to turn the former Record Plant into a facility that serves a new generation of musicians.

FreqLab’s owners Zack Phillips and Brian DeLizza have been working on a new non-profit, membership based studio model for the past two years. When we met, we realized it just made sense to partner.

They have been working to identify the needs of musicians, engineers, producers, and other music industry professionals, and we all feel we have come up with a new business model that address these needs in a new, exciting, and different way.

In many ways this new model is similar to that of a gym or fitness club, where members pay a monthly fee, and will have access to a number services. These services include recording studios, editing suites, workstations for music production, rehearsal rooms, as well as group classes and private lessons for music, recording, and production. Members will also be provided with many other much needed resources, such as vehicles to bring their music to market, and a team of event coordinators and promoters who are dedicated to helping members book shows. It is a new approach to the recording studio and music industry that we feel benefits all parties involved.

After working together to adapt our model to accomodate their expertise and enhance our shared vision, we are ready to move ahead. We are currently in the process of working to secure investments to cover the startup costs.

In an effort to show our potential investors that there is a market for this type of service, we are putting together a list of people who would be interested in becoming members. We hope you are as excited about our vision as we are, and we invite you join our list of potential members! Of course there is no obligation to join, and no commitment necessary, this list is for the sole purpose of showing investors that people are interested in this type of business model . If you like our idea and would be interested in becoming a member please join our list!
