Tropical Storm….Henri-watch for the southeasterly winds gusting thru mid afternoon don’t let your guard down- winds gusts are unpredictable with tropical systems

Well Happy Winter finally- I guess.... I do enjoy a good snowstorms even though I cooked Christmas dinner on the grill in shorts and bare feet of course!

I guess most of you have heard there is a snowstorm on the way the first our El Niño winter- good news for Home Depot shareholders! I look at the models this am and I see a tremendous amount of dry getting forced into the storm as it tries to come up to coast Saturday. If you haven't noticed over the last few days the amount of Chapstick an extra lotion you need as you get out of the shower the air is extremely dry. = dew point below zero What this does it delays the amount of precipitation before it reaches the ground specifically in the upper atmosphere it will dry up the snowflakes before you even see them land on your deck. The combination of this factor and looking like the storm will pass farther south my prediction for the storm is.. 4-6 inches

Go Pats -50 degrees in Denver for game time

Well, I am back from my 5 month sabitical. As I walked to my office yesterday on cold Veterans Day thinking of my Dad, who was a Naval intelligence officer, I said to myself "hello November."

I wanted to share with you my thoughts coming up for the winter 2015–2016. Over the last couple months you may have read or heard about in the news this "super El Niño which is about to be unleashed upon us! When we have experienced the El Niño phenomenon is the past Rhode Island tends to have above normal precipitation and temperatures. Hmmm- i'm not so sure this is going to happen. As many of you know, I am a summer guy. I still walk out of the house down the driveway barefoot because I refused to except winter is almost here-- yes Amy thinks I am crazy but then realizes the season that I love the most has slipped away.

Lately walking down the driveway in the dark I've had the uncomfortable feeling stepping on golf ball size acorns. The farmers almanac-which is fiction by the way calls for a very cold and snowy winter for Rhode Island. Don't be fooled by the El Niño prediction I think will still have our fair share of powder this winter!!

We are 10 short days away from the beginning of "the season" ahhhhh summer 😎. My outlook is for one similar to last summer --no real extreme heat for an extended period a.k.a heat wave. We will have many days in upper 70's to low 80's. Last summer the only "official" heat wave occurred over the dreaded 3 day weekend --Labor Day-- 3 consecutive days above 90 degrees. The concern for now is the rain deficit of almost 6 inches outside my door and rest of southern RI. The hope is that the jet stream dips occasionally to our south which will allow for a steady rain storm to develop-- hopefully not with the cold air which made it feel like mid November two weeks ago. The downpours from thunderstorms will
not help as the water will run off the ground just like rainex!

Next post----I will give you an easy way to understand the difference between humidity and dew point.

This time of year it's all about the dew point!!!

Well surprise surprise. To all my local friends from Narragansett you're thinking what the hell happened with the storm?

Simple, you can have a coastal storm but there was a race between the cold air getting here in the moisture. Temperatures were in the mid 40s yesterday. As you can see the cold air one and it created perfect conditions for powder snow which piles up very quickly..

10 inches here and Saunderstown still coming down until 8 o'clock most likely will end up with a foot.

There will be a cool weather phenomenon happening on Sunday night. Daylight savings time begins so we will lose an hour sleep --who cares....the sun which we will see set at 6:45 PM on Sunday. Rarely do we have 3 feet of snow on the ground when this happens which will create a solar reflection to keep it light half hour later than it normally would stay at dusk

02/28/2015

Well, what is another snowstorm?? Expect 4 inches of the heart attack snow. Perhaps a delay for the kids. The good news -daylight savings time begin 2 weeks from tonight !!!!😎😎😎😎

02/13/2015

Time to cuddle by the fire tomorrow night while the snow blows sideways outside. There will be a lull in the snow around 9pm so travel will not become difficult until midnight.... do not cancel your dinner reservations... 8 inches of powder by noon on Sunday

Happy Valentines Day❤️

Another 3 day weekend for the Kids? Looks like this storm will be spread out beginning overnight Saturday and lasting through Monday afternoon. It will vary in intensity and will not snow continuously through the period. For all the people who enjoy shoveling ... as I do-it will be powder snow

02/01/2015

First flakes = 12:00. Enjoy the game. GO PATS!!

01/31/2015

Another 3 day week-end for the kids to close out the month of January. Let them stay up late on Sunday to enjoy a Pats victory. They can play in 8-12 inches of powder snow on Monday.

01/28/2015

Finally.. the kids will be able to use their snow tube/sleds in 22 inches of snow here in Saunderstown. The kids may have another long weekend coming up??? Will we all be able to sleep in after a Pat's victory... more to come

01/27/2015

19 inches... as of 11:30... more heavy bands of snow coming in through late this afternoon- more this Sunday night ?? what's a little more at this point.. stay tuned
