Today, Theatre Company of Saugus honors Juneteenth.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

This day is a celebration of freedom, resilience, Black history, Black joy, and the ongoing work of justice. As a theatre community, we believe stories matter. Whose stories are told, who gets to tell them, and who feels welcome in the room all matter.

Today, we encourage our community to take time to learn, reflect, listen, celebrate, and support local Juneteenth events and Black-led cultural spaces.

The Youth Theatre Workshop is ready for the first fundraiser of the 2026 program! 🚗💦

Join us for our annual car wash Saturday July 18th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Saugus Senior Center parking lot:
466 Central Street (near Hurd Avenue) in Saugus

👉$10 per car! All proceeds help make the program as incredible of an experience as possible for the youth of the Saugus community as well as surrounding communities.

👉If you have a business car or know any business that would like to stop by to get their car washed, we will provided the business with a free advertisement on our socials!

We are so excited to announce our 2026 YTW production teams!

The actual school year may be over but class is still in session for these staff members. Get ready to crack open that Burn Book with the Plastics and tell a fantastical tale with Matilda! LET’S DO THIS THING!

Theatre Company of Saugus is deeply saddened to share that Michael “Mike” Giusti passed away on May 14, 2026

Mike had wonderful stories about his own time on stage in his younger years, including performing with the Winthrop Playmakers in the 1960s. In later years, he found joy in being part of the audience, helping behind the scenes, watching horror movies, buying and selling antiques, traveling, and enjoying all different types of food.

He also loved his early mornings at Iron Town Diner in Saugus, arriving with the birds before beginning his day.

For anyone who has attended a Theatre Company of Saugus production over the past decade, there is a good chance Mike was the person who greeted you at the door and handed you your ticket. He faithfully ran our box office and generously provided many of the refreshments and raffle prizes sold during intermission at our performances.

Mike loved watching TCS shows, and we loved having him as such a loyal, generous, and dependable part of our front-of-house family.

In addition to his work at the box office, Mike served on our Board of Directors from 2018 to 2020 and often helped with stage lighting setup. Mike was an integral part of Theatre Company of Saugus, and his kindness, dedication, humor, and engaging spirit left a lasting mark on our company.

We will miss Mike dearly and are deeply grateful for everything he gave to our community, especially the time, care, and resources he so generously dedicated.

Rest easy, Mike. Thank you for everything. You were truly one of a kind.

A Sad Loss for Our TCS Community

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Ben Tan, who sadly passed today, May 14, 2026, at the age of 36 after battling cancer for several years.

Ben was an integral part of the Theatre Company of Saugus community for many years. A talented music director, vocal coach, educator, and collaborator, he brought warmth, skill, and generosity to every production and project he was part of.

Ben’s first production with TCS was The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in 2018, where he served as music director. He would later have served as music director for our 2020 production of The Marvelous Wonderettes, which was sadly canceled due to the pandemic. During that time, Ben continued to share his talents with our community, leading a Zoom class on reading music in August 2020 and appearing in and music directing our video-streamed production of Look What I Can Do…From Way Over Here in March 2021.

Ben went on to serve as music director and vocal coach for our Youth Theatre Workshop production of The Little Mermaid Jr. in July 2021. He was also co-music director and created backing tracks for the musical interludes in our short play festival Lovely Thoughts and Other Stories in March 2022. Most recently, he served as music director for our 2023 production of Peter and the Starcatcher.

In addition to his artistic contributions, Ben served TCS as an Alternate Board member for several years and then as a member of the Board of Directors from 2022 to 2024. Ben Tan’s day job was as an elementary school music teacher for the Boston public schools.

Thank you for the music, Ben. You will be missed.
