The Woodstock School of Art has offered some amazing opportunities to artists who have exhibited with Emerge Gallery and other art spaces in the area. Please consider joining me for their Barn Frolic – a fundraiser to restore their historic barn. I'll be a hoot!

I am so honored and grateful to be included in a new collection of poetry about Saugerties by my friend Will Nixon. The book contains poems about many of the businesses and landmarks in Saugerties along with a story behind most of them. Here’s the poem he wrote about my gallery, Emerge Gallery, and the story behind it. I’ve also included the poem he wrote for the florist in town, Dancing Tulip Floral Boutique to give you just a little taste. The artwork on the cover is by Joanne Pagano Weber who created a series of life-size cardboard cut outs of Saugerties residents, myself included.

It’s a wonderful collection and available to purchase at Inquiring Minds Coffee House and Bookstore here in town or you can order it from your local bookstore or online wherever you purchase books.

I'm sharing this opportunity from my current employer, Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild. This is their annual fundraiser where they exhibit 5x7 original works of art anonymously with each piece sold at $150. The name of the artist is revealed once the work is purchased. Byrdcliffe is one of the country's oldest arts colonies and had a major hand in building the Woodstock art scene. They're a wonderful organization to support. You don't need to be a local artist to be included in the exhibition. I encourage you to submit a piece of your art. more info: https://www.woodstockguild.org/exhibitions/5-by-7-2/

Attention Artists!

We are now accepting donations of artworks measuring 5 by 7 inches (or 7 by 5 inches) for our landmark 25th annual 5 by 7 fundraising exhibition!

The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild’s 25th Annual 5 by 7 Show at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts at 36 Tinker Street is one of Woodstock’s premier events, showcasing artists from the Hudson Valley and beyond. Artworks measuring 5 x 7 inches (or 7 x 5 inches), generously donated by the artist, are exhibited anonymously with the artist’s name revealed once the artwork is sold.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Monday November 4th, 2024 5:00 PM
This is a major fundraising event for Byrdcliffe. By donating a small work, you help to support community programming in the arts including exhibitions, artist talks, readings, curatorial discussions, performances, and more. All works are sold online for $150.

Questions, contact: [email protected]

On behalf of the staff, Board, and dedicated volunteers, thank you in advance for your kind support.

It’s not “Goodbye” ...It’s “See you soon”
I’m taking a step back

At the end of 2023 Emerge Gallery closed its physical space in Saugerties, NY, but continued hosting group shows virtually through the gallery shop on Artsy.net. The on-line shop offered a platform for the works of Hudson Valley artists to be viewed annd purchased by collectors throughout the world.

A virtual presence was a wonderful tool to exhibit and sell art, but it was a different experience from having a physical presence. Many of my favorite parts of being a gallery owner were the personal connections made and being able to spend some time with artists and the community when they visited; the excitement in making the connections between the art when hanging a show and watching it come together like a puzzle.

But the things that i enjoyed so much were lost in the translation to going exclusively virtual. After much consideration, I have decided to close the virtual Artsy shop. (Note to artists: if your art was listed on Artsy with Emerge Gallery, it will no longer be available to view or purchase).

I’ll be taking a step back from Emerge Gallery to focus on my new position as Programming Director for the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild — one of the country’s oldest artist colonies. I’m proud to still be working for the arts in my new role. I’ll be stepping back but i intend to continue hosting exhibitions as Emerge Gallery at different locations in the future.

Thank you for the 8 years of support. It’s been a pleasure meeting so many wonderful artists and supporters of the arts. i have made a lot of friends on this journey. I know I’ll see many of you again.

Anne Leith Paints to Music
This Sunday, 1-5
The Lamb Center, 41 Market St

Anne Leith is a painter based in the Hudson Valley. In her own words - I am a painter of places, going out in all weather conditions and often working large scale. In my studio I paint imaginary and often fantastical landscapes. A few years ago, I began incorporating metallic leaf into my work. It brings 3D to a 2D piece.

The immense pleasure that I get from making art is unlike any other activity.

Hosted by Emerge Gallery and ShoutOut Saugerties
Part of the exhibition For the Record: Art Sparked by Song
Exhibit runs through Aug 25, Fri-Sun, 1 to 5PM

Original art $20 and up, original sunglass designs $10, earrings and necklaces $5+ and much more. While you're making the rounds during today's Saugerties Artists Studio Tour, please stop by studio 21 at 1170 Main St in Malden between 10-6 and add one of Shelley Davis' original pieces to your collection. We lost Shelley last month. All proceeds will go directly to her estate and finance all expenses ahead.

It was her wish to be part of this year's Saugerties Artists Studio Tour, so Emerge Gallery and some of her friends have gathered her work and prepared her studio to welcome guests during this weekend's tour. It was also her wish that each of her works find a home.

You can find more about the studio tour and a map at https://saugertiesarttour.org

Looking for a few volunteers to sit during Saugerties Artists Open Studios on Aug 10 and 11. A few friends of Shelley Davis, who recently passed, are getting together her work and opening her studio in Malden to the public. Shelley was planning on participating but her health took a turn. We are seeking a handful of reliable people to sit at her studio and welcome the public. Please message me with any availability you may have during the 10 - 6 open hours. Thank you
