Developing Daisy, a musical in 3 acts with 15 original songs, is a le***an love story set in the present, with lengthy flashbacks into the 1970’s, reflecting all that decade’s passion, idealism, politics and drama. It tells the story of Daisy Frank, an aging photographer, who, reluctant to participate in a retrospective that will bring back memories from her youth, is being urged on by a young hip
assistant, Jamie Lerner. From radically different perspectives, they relive the spirit and politics of that earlier decade while making transformative discoveries about themselves and each other. Through their unlikely collaboration, and their journey through the "great mother-daughter divide", Daisy comes to terms with the long suppressed pain of her first le***an love, dispelling the ghosts of her past and embracing her future. Helen Newman and Stephanie Glickman have spent many years in the creation of DAISY and are ready to present the first staged reading of the entire play to be produced by the Theater for the New City January 24-25, 2015. With a cast of 10 Equity actors and 15 musical numbers, the two performances promise to be not only entertaining and uplifting, but an opportunity for you to be part of this developmental process. Go to our website to learn about our upcoming staged reading in NYC, listen to some of our music, and get more information about the play and its creators. We need your help in making this happen! Our goal is to raise $12,000 by October 15th. Find out how to support us at www.developingdaisy.com.
