Meet Kristin K Hosbein, the judge for our Plein Air show.

Artist Statement:
“My work comes from the heart, guided by light, color, and the emotional pull of memory. I paint to capture a moment’s warmth:
the way light glows around the form and how color stirs feeling within me. With lively brushwork and color harmonies, the intention is to create a small pause, a sense of joy, and a visual translation to what excites the senses as I paint.”

Short Biography:
Kristin is an award winning contemporary impressionistic painter from St. Joseph, Michigan. known for her expressive brushwork and luminous color. A member of the US Coast Guard Artist Program, eight of her paintings are in their national collection in Washington DC. She is a sailor and has been the timing voice at start and finishes of the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac for the past 20 years. Art for the culturally restless.
Detroit made. Capizzo shown.

At Capizzo we’re all about pushing the boundaries by showing work that feels different from what you typically see in Saugatuck…or honestly, much of West Michigan. Work with some friction that makes you linger alongside pieces with an interesting beauty that pull you in.

THE HAND brings together Detroit artists and printmakers. These artists are speaking about politics, identity, power, race, memory and the world they’re experiencing right now. They are sharing the world they actually live in. These are new voices. Younger perspectives with a pulse.

There’s plenty of art in the world designed to match your sofa or wall color, but this isn’t it. When you choose to support up and coming artists and hang provocative art versus mass-produced prints from Home Goods, Target, etc.,. you challenge the norm, you spark deep conversations with friends and you reflect your unique identity. You create your own personal space filled with real emotion, bold ideas and original culture.

And the work has enough bite. We’re stoked, but we don’t need to oversell it. Its fresh creative energy, rooted in community is what sets it apart. Come see something different. Something out of the ordinary. Maybe something a little outside your comfort zone.

What’s showing in Detroit? Some of it is right here.

We did an impromptu visit with joehindleyart in his Sawyer studio and started talking chairs. We have two of his chairs as part of his show with Charlie Rees at Capizzo. If you haven’t seen these in person, do yourself a favor and stop in.
In the meantime, enjoy Joe talking about his inspiration, evolution and process behind these chairs.

Meet Charlie Rees
Charlie Rees maintained a studio for more than twenty years in Chicago’s historic Flat Iron Arts Building before relocating to Saugatuck. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Mosaic School.
His practice spans painting, stained glass, and mosaics, and he has intentionally shifted from primarily studio work in Chicago to working outdoors in Saugatuck, where the landscape has become both subject and teacher.
Rather than promoting finished mastery, Charlie talks about being a student again. Above all, Charlie is still enthusiastic.
This is the quality that separates him. He is a master of light, a master of art, yet he remains deeply curious. He is still studying. Still learning. Still chasing the next discovery.
Charlie made his first paintings and sketches when most of us weren’t even out of diapers. He made his most recent painting just the other day-with the same enthusiasm, the same fresh eyes and the same searching spirit that has driven him for decades.
That isn’t common. It’s rare.
When you stand in front of Charlie’s work, you’re not simply looking at the product of experience You’re looking at the work of someone who has never stopped growing, never stopped questioning, and never stopped seeing the world with wonder.
You owe it to yourself to spend time with this work.
