Meet our landmark Bunya Pine, Araucaria bidwillii—a 110+ year-old living history lesson on the Great Lawn. Native to Queensland, Australia, this ancient conifer is famous for producing some of the world’s largest cones, which is also today’s gardening lesson: admire from a safe distance and stay outside the marked area during cone season! 🌲

Looking back with gratitude on the luminous legacy of Susan O’Malley (1976–2015)—an artist whose joyful and generous work continues to remind us to care for ourselves, one another, and the communities we help create.

During her residency with the Lucas Artists Program, Susan brought warmth, optimism, and a spirit of connection to everything she made, including A Healing Walk, now a permanent installation at Montalvo Arts Center.

We’re delighted to share this special moment with our Director, Lucas Artists Program Kelly Sicat, pictured with Susan’s new career-spanning monograph, It Will Be More Beautiful Than You Could Ever Imagine. This beautiful book is now on sale and offers a heartfelt way to spend time with Susan’s words, colors, and enduring message of hope.

If you’re visiting Montalvo, we warmly invite you to experience Susan’s installation, A Healing Walk, and to celebrate her legacy by picking up a copy of the book: https://lnk.to/morebeautiful

Save the date to celebrate Susan’s legacy on November 15, 2026 at Montalvo.

Inspired by meaningful conversations and shared learning at TLCC 2026 in Washington, D.C.!
A heartfelt congratulations to Kelly Castellon, Director of Development at Montalvo Arts Center, Kristin Hanson, Development Operations Specialist, and Sarah Benjamin Sales and Marketing Manager of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, for leading an insightful and energizing session, From Reset to High Performance: Restructuring and Revitalizing Your Tessitura System.
Their presentation sparked thoughtful conversation around what it takes to audit, rebuild, and reimagine an inherited Tessitura system with clarity, collaboration, and long-term success in mind. From streamlining workflows and improving reporting to reducing manual work and inspiring organizational buy-in, their insights offered a powerful example of how intentional systems work can strengthen teams and support mission-driven organizations.
We are so proud of these three leaders for sharing their experiences, lifting up their organizations, and contributing to the spirit of connection, innovation, and community that makes the Tessitura network so inspiring.

After bringing the funk to Montalvo last fall, St. Paul & The Minneapolis Funk All-Stars and his funky crew are back—and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to the Carriage House!

One of the best musicians to emerge from the Twin Cities, St. Paul appeared in "Purple Rain" as a teenage wunderkind and was hand-picked by Prince himself to lead The Family on the Paisley Park label. Now, in the tradition of Motown’s Funk Brothers, St. Paul has assembled the “who’s who” of the Minneapolis Sound with St. Paul & The Minneapolis Funk All-Stars—featuring artists who wrote, produced, or performed on some of the biggest hits from the heyday of electro funk-rock in the Twin Cities.

Join us October 16 at 7:30 PM and get ready to groove this fall. Grab your seats today!

Enter if you dare… and you did. ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for our free Marcus Festival: Enter if You Dare, a celebration of Montalvo’s 2026 Marcus Exhibition, The Art & Architecture of Maybe. What a joy to see our grounds come alive with music, movement, performance, hands-on artmaking, and moments of wonder across the gardens.

We are so grateful to our incredible performers, artists, food vendors, volunteers, and the fabulous Montalvo team who made the night possible—and to every guest who showed up with curiosity, openness, and community spirit.

Events like this remind us why accessible art matters: it brings us together, sparks imagination, and helps culture thrive. If you were there, leave a comment and tell us what moment stayed with you. And if you’d like to help keep experiences like this free and open to all, please consider supporting your local nonprofit arts center:
