Today, we observe Juneteenth—a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration of Black freedom, history, and achievement.​

As we recognize the profound impact of Black artists on the arts, we also celebrate the legacies of composers William Grant Still, often called the “Dean of African American Composers,” and Florence Price, the first African American woman to have a work performed by a major American orchestra. This summer, on August 15 and 20, The Philadelphia Orchestra will perform works by these pioneering composers—music that remains far too rarely heard on concert stages today.​

These performances reflect S**C’s and The Philadelphia Orchestra’s ongoing commitment to elevating the voices of underrepresented composers and ensuring their artistry continues to be experienced, celebrated, and shared with new generations of audiences.

Back by popular demand! Pre-performance talks return with the launch of our new "Setting the Stage" series🎉 ​

Returning for the first time since 2019, the series will now take place outdoors on the Charles R. Wood Stage, creating a more accessible experience for audiences. The 30-minute conversations take place before select New York City Ballet & Philadelphia Orchestra performances and are free to ticketed attendees. The series features leading voices in the arts like Tiler Peck, Taylor Stanley, Marin Alsop and more!​
