In these two dusk scenes, the paintings capture how one place will never look the same twice; especially near the shore. Dusk is the transition from day to night that lasts around 90 minutes and is split into three separate, distinct groups that constantly change color. These conditions make the transition quite challenging to paint. Yet, Dominic Avant captures the true beauty of these events that will never be the same again.

For humans, flowers are vital for agriculture and medical remedies. Flowers are used universally to celebrate achievements, express sympathy, and to show affection. When words are not enough, people will bring flowers to communicate their emotions.

Flowers communicate in their own special way and have their own meanings we have assigned. The beauty of their language is that with the smallest of change of color or species, the change can have a significant impact on the meaning behind the flower.

We wish to present hydrangeas. Hydrangeas represent community and we wish to grow this flourishing community of artists and art enjoyers through our gallery. We hope you enjoy this collection of flower paintings as much as we do.

As we near the 250th anniversary of the United States, communities all across the country are taking a moment to reflect on the stories that shaped them.

Sarasota has evolved in remarkable ways since the time of the earliest inhabitants. Once a swampy wetland, Sarasota has now become a well known destination with a rich community known for tourism and the arts.

These pieces are on display in City Hall. Through these mural scale artworks by Regan Dunnick, Frank Hopper and selected paintings from Arts Advocates, the community’s most notable faces and places emerge to share their stories.

View this collection, including selected pieces from Arts Advocates, at Sarasota City Hall.

A leisurely stroll with ice cream in hand.

The first ice cream flavor ever invented was chocolate, though most believe it to be vanilla. The first published “frozen chocolate” recipe dates back to Naples, Italy, in 1692. Vanilla ice cream did not appear in European recipes until the 1760s.

Historically, ancient precursors to ice cream, such as snow mixed with nectar or honey, were served as early as the Roman Empire.

Ted Polomis sets sail on his rainbow fleet to an unknown destination. His use of color and shape brings to life a scene full of only stationary objects.

According to Polomis, he says, “I always paint objects that I find captivating in someway, and worthy of close, repeated inspection. I prefer simple balanced setups that highlight my subjects while, at the same time, create a meditative and calming scene. My hope is that the collector will be as engaged by my paintings as I am with my subjects.”

The America’s Cup is the oldest active trophy in international sport, predating the Olympics we know today by 45 years. Established in 1851, the “Auld Mug” was born when the schooner “America” crossed the Atlantic and defeated a fleet of British yachts around the Isle of Wight.

The US dominated for 132 years and over that course of time, Captain Charlie Barr successfully captained three victorious defenses in the competition. He captained the Columbia in 1899, again in 1901, and the Reliance in 1903.

In this lecture series, “Built to Win,” Shane Couch and Alasdair Purves will give their insight into this historic sport and bring fresh new perspectives and artworks.

We hope to see you there and if you are unable to attend, we invite you to join virtually to witness this phenomenal lecture. There is a link in our bio for your convenience.

Even though these paintings are small, they still show an incredible amount of depth and detail that draws you in. Like they say, “Good things come in small packages.” And we couldn’t agree more.
