📣 Internship Opportunity!

Mote Education Interns in the Florida Keys play an integral role in delivering a wide range of impactful education programs, including school field trips, residential and immersive programs, citizen science initiatives, community outreach events, and more. This highly hands-on internship provides valuable experience in science communication, environmental education, and informal learning across diverse audiences and settings.

Interns support program development, assist with the creation of educational resources, and gain confidence leading activities in the classroom, field, and outdoor environments. Interns will also become familiar with Mote Marine Laboratory’s research and conservation efforts, connecting real-world science to engaging educational experiences.

Qualified candidates may have the opportunity to facilitate educational coral restoration diving programs and gain immersive experience supporting citizen science initiatives utilizing SCUBA.

In honor of the outpouring of support we have received from our incredible community, these camps will focus on communities in the ocean, strength in numbers and the importance of working together. Celebrate Earth Day with Mote Marine Laboratory! Join us on a seashore safari without getting wet during our free virtual excursion into Sarasota Bay. 🪼

Live from atop our floating education platform, and embark on a sightseeing adventure over mudflats, seagrass meadows, and mangrove trees. Uncover the challenges sea creatures face living between the tides and maybe wave to a scientist working alongside us on the docks. 🦑

The Scigirls STEM program at Mote is designed for middle school girls, incorporating proven methods like mentorship and exposure to female STEM role models. Participants will experience marine science through interactive sessions, hands-on experiments, collaborative projects, field sampling, and onsite visits.

Meet the Giant Manta Ray! They have a wingspan of up to 26 feet and weigh up to 5,300 pounds. These filter feeders travel around the ocean and feast on zooplankton.

However, these magnificent creatures face a grave threat, commercial fishing. They are targeted for their gill plates or unintentionally caught in fishing nets.

Check out these colossal creatures that can weigh up to a whopping 800 pounds and stretch up to 8 feet long!

Goliath Grouper can live more than 30 years they are found in tropical waters and reefs in the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and off the coast of Africa.

This fish is an ambush predator and they swallow their prey whole, they do not chew!
