Earth Day Multi Cultural Fest

Earth Day Multi Cultural Fest Preserving the Path of Beauty and vision of (the late) Navajo artist Rex A.

Begaye by building bridges between Native American Indian culture and community through art, music, dance and education.

Thank you to everyone for your kindness and support over the past 8 years since our Beloved friend (the late) Rex A Begaye crossed over. It has been an honor and blessing in so many ways to continue his legacy and vision of supporting Native American culture here in Sarasota.

I feel very fortunate and blessed that our festival has succeeded in surviving through the challenges that have taken place over these years, but particularly in the past 2 years.

Just when you feel like everything is going to collapse, somehow the Creator and our spiritual Guardians bring healing, peace, love, understanding, and all the other beautiful gifts that are given to us through hardship and pain.

Many of us have walked through that pain together and have held each other up throughout those rough journeys.

Many of you were there when our friend left, and because of your love, guidance, friendship and generosity, we got through it and the festival survived.

December 24th marked the 8th year since my Beloved moved through the veil. It's been an extraordinary journey, as difficult as it has been, and now it feels like a good time to rest.

I have decided to take this year off, for my own personal healing.
The Creator also blessed me with a new job working to support a non profit org. It has given me a great opportunity to learn and apprentice. I will share more about that in another post.

We are scheduled for 2023 and I am negotiating for a November 2022 festival for Native American heritage month. The dates and details will be announce here, once it is finalized.

I also want to take this year to complete the documentary and begin developing a series of art books dedicated to (the late) Rex's collection.

It's Great to see that the Seminole tribal fair and Brighton rodeo are taking place this year. Last year, Paul and I held the line. This year it looks like we both need a break and the big tribal festivals will keep the powwow trail active in Florida.

I love and appreciate all of you, your friendships and support.
Thank you for your understanding and God Bless each of you. Stay healthy, stay out of the hospital and remember your grandmother's medicine ways...

The next Sarasota Native American Art & Music Fest will take place:

February 10,11,12 2023

God Bless

This piece is called, "They saw it coming", quite prophetic. Be strong, stand your ground and do not give up your freedom!

Thank you everyone for your support and inspiration to create this event. We are all recovering from the trauma of the past year and it feels best to take more time to prepare our event properly.
Many people are not ready to travel yet and our communities are still rebuilding.
We hope to reset and hold an indoor music festival this summer at the fairgrounds and will keep you posted on this event. The heat is so intense during the summer we are all looking for indoor venues for our entertainment, so a music concert is in the works....
We will keep you posted and please stay health and safe until we cross paths again....
with much love and gratitude
Barbara

Happy New Year everyone! I am coming out a year long sabbatical from social media for healing purposes.
It's been good medicine....and now I am ready to Rock & Roll with the festival and come back to life online again.
Thank you to all your well wishes and prayers. December 24th was the 7th anniversary of our Beloved friend, (the late) Rex A. Begaye's passing.
I gathered with close friends and shared the final touches and completion of the gallery. Christmas eve for me is now a celebration of his transition to light...
I have quietly and whole heartedly focused on healing and manifesting this mission of opening a gallery and preserving (the late) Rex's legacy of the Sarasota Native American Indian Festival.
This past year has been an extraordinary example of the strength and compassion of people. It's been a year of revealing the truth on many levels. I feel honored and blessed to still be able to continue this mission and know I have a team watching over me guiding the path.
In the entrance of the gallery I have been working on a cedar tree sculpture made from stucco. There was a tree that he had photographs of himself in different times of his life. I was guided to sculpt that tree in the entrance as a reminder of the roots of where everything is anchored. Here is a photo of me and the tree...and (the late) Rex by the original tree.
We have survived a massive shift in our lives on a planetary basis and it's hard to know what will happen in the next few weeks, never mind next month.
I have sat back and watched very carefully and have decided to go ahead with the festival with a few changes...
We are now the "Sarasota Native American Art & Music Festival".
The new dates are February 12, 13, 14 at the Sarasota Fairgrounds.
Our festival hours will be 10-5 Friday, 10-10 Saturday and 10-5 Sunday.
Saturday night we will have a separate concert from 6-10 pm. Details of the lineup of artists will be shared in the next few days.
Since I have been co-hosting with Sal on WSLR 94.5 "Indigenous Sounds" Monday 9-11 pm radio show , I am in awe of the amazing music that comes from our Native community and would like to expand the event to include some of those genres of music such as blues, reggae, rock and fusion. An evening concert will be a great way to expand the Native cultural music scene here in Sarasota.
Our drum this year will be the "Red Boys", Lowery Begaye as MC, our guest story teller and flutist is Harold Littlebird and Joelle Clark will bring awareness and education about her non profit E-Rez to raise funds for heating needs of people on the northern boarder tribal lands. We have a few more surprises in the works to be announced in the next few days.
Thank you to everyone for your patience, kindness and support.
Stay strong and take care of each other...hope to see you next month.
with Love and gratitude,
Barbara
