Hiss! BOOM! Squat! Join Petticoat Painter, PHILOMENA MARANO to learn more about her art of Papier Colle. ARTIST TALK: Sunday, July 26 at 3pm at Werk Gallery, 2210 First Ave S, St. Pete. Exhibition dates: July 3- Aug. 2.
Philomena is most known for her paper cutting abilities and the sense of wonder she instills in her art, both her fanciful undersea works (which she calls “wUndersea” ) and her Coney Island and circus pieces. Her cut paper images pull the viewer in and sometimes fool them into thinking they seeing a printed or painted artwork.

The Petticoats Are Painting!
Coming Soon: “Now You See Us” Installation at Sarasota City Hall

Later this Summer, the City’s One Stop Shop building (1575 2nd Street) will welcome “Now You See Us,” a new composite artwork created by members of the Petticoat Painters. The installation celebrates the conclusion of their year‑long Cultural Heritage Exhibit at City Hall and highlights the artists who took part.
The piece brings together twenty‑four original 10x10 canvases, each reflecting the individual style of a participating artist while honoring the collective’s long-standing presence in Sarasota’s arts community. Arranged in a unified grid on the third‑floor wall facing the elevator, the work will offer a bright and engaging moment for everyone passing through this busy civic space.
The installation is expected to debut in early August, adding a fresh expression of Sarasota’s artistic heritage to this active public building. City of Sarasota, Government Ciera Coleman

Using the broad chromatic spectrum of Color-aid paper, she treats this cut paper process as a synthesis of drawing, painting and graphic design: the paper is my palette, my x-acto knife is my rendering instrument. Petticoat Painters, KEIKO ROMERSTEIN and NANCY HIELSCHER's work has been accepted into the juried Big Waters Land Trust Community Art Exhibit. The exhibit focuses on paintings and drawings and showcases local protected lands through the eyes of Big Waters Land conservation.
