Tune in Wednesday, September 9 at 5PM to watch an exclusive Luther Locals Online recording of Cosmo Alleycats on our page!

Cosmo Alleycats have been a favorite of the San Francisco music scene since the band’s 2010 beginning. Led by jazz vocalist Emily Day, “one of the major singers in her field” (Scott Yanow), the group endears audiences with their inviting musicality and playful improvisation, making quick converts of the jazz-curious, while still nodding to the serious aficionados.

Cosmo Alleycats presents “Old Sweet Songs”, a show celebrating enduring melodies, a bygone style of song writing, and their original songs that contend for placement in the Great American canon. With 16 years’ experience performing together, Cosmo Alleycats is a well-oiled machine. However polished their performance may be, it’s their sense of playfulness that holds the door open for the unexpected.

📚 Kristin Hannah, author of The Nightingale and The Four Winds, comes to the LBC on Saturday, September 26, for a conversation about her newest release, The Women, at once an intimate portrait of coming of age in a dangerous time and an epic tale of a nation divided. Set in 1965, it is a novel about deep friendships and bold patriotism, a richly drawn story with a memorable heroine whose idealism and courage under fire will come to define an era. Join us for this warmhearted reading and conversation followed by a live audience Q&A. Presented by Copperfield’s Books, every ticket includes a pre-signed paperback copy of the book, The Women. Photos and video are strictly prohibited for this event.

Relive the 70s when Tower of Power returns to the LBC on Saturday, November 28! For 58 years, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music. Once East Bay Grease defined their sound, the 70s were a boom period for the band with radio classics like “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?” They continued to tour and record over the years, returning to Oakland in 2018 for their 50th anniversary. They’ve travelled the world, enjoying hit singles on their own and backing legendary artists, including Otis Redding, Elton John, Santana, the Grateful Dead, John Lee Ho**er, Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, and countless others. In the process they’ve defined the instantly recognizable “Oakland soul” sound.
