Our Story
The Arlene Francis Center and Vacant Lot Productions brings you Shakespeare in the Cannery, in its 5th year as an outdoor Shakespeare festival in the heart of downtown Santa Rosa.
Directed by David Lear, this organization has revitalized the former Cal Pack cannery building in Santa Rosa’s historic Railroad Square, transforming it into a vibrant, outdoor theater.
Shakespeare in the Cannery offers festival style seating before a dramatic outdoor stage. Set up a picnic, bring your most comfortable lawn chairs and get ready for an unforgettable night as you wine and dine under the midsummer night sky. Wine and Lagunitas beer will be available for purchase on site. ADA parking available on a limited basis in the 6th Street Playhouse parking lot.

Once the sun sets, it tends to get cold, so warm clothes and blankets are recommended. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own picnic dinners and then, purchase beer and wine at the event because proceeds directly benefit the non-profit Arlene Francis Foundation, which is instrumental in producing Shakespeare in the Cannery.
