I occasionally will post a pop-culture color, with my thoughts about the color/pop culture moment. It’s short form. but something I am thinking about. Something that I am seeing often. I like to find a color that symbolizes that to me, and then post about it.
My whole feed is Dolly, though. And there is no one worthier of my “make it pop” theme than Dolly.
I was thinking about her iconic outfits, maybe do a Dolly-hair color. But when I think of Dolly, and I think of all the people posting about her. There is something very cool that goes beyond her iconic look. She unites across politics, and across wages, and demographics. She unites.
Now I’ve heard about everything she does. I know she gives books, I know she gets choir outfits for schools. I know she pays better than most at her amusement park. But I haven’t looked into it, myself. So this post. My “make it pop” color for this week is going to be the red in her Imagination Library.
Did you know that you can donate right on her website? I didn’t. It starts around $31 once. Her website says she has gifted over three hundred… thirty two MILLION…4 hundred eleven THOUSAND two hundred and eighteen books to children.
Every MONTH, she has a list of 3 million kids who are receiving books. And this is going on in 5 countries.
And yes, I spelled it out because that is a HUGE number I don’t think needs shortening.
So, while the world is a little darker because it’s missing her light, hopefully we can find the light within ourselves and live in a way she’d encourage. Authentically, humbly, and helping out where we can. :)
