The Santa Monica Symphony is honored to welcome Ji Young An as our new Concertmaster.
An is an accomplished violinist, educator, and studio musician whose career spans orchestral performance, recording, and higher education. In addition to joining the Santa Monica Symphony, she serves as Acting Concertmaster of the San Bernardino Symphony, Principal Second Violin of Opera Santa Barbara, and Acting Principal Second Violin with the Redlands Symphony. She also performs regularly with leading Southern California ensembles, including Pacific Symphony and Santa Barbara Symphony.
Beyond the concert stage, Ji Young is an active studio musician whose performances can be heard on numerous film, television, and video game soundtracks. She is also a Distinguished Lecturer in Violin Performance at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where she mentors the next generation of musicians.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Ji Young received her early professional training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris before earning both her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music on full scholarship.
