Musical Theatre Guild Broadway's forgotten gems and undiscovered treasures in staged reading format. www.musicaltheatreguild.com A Musical in 25 Hours? We love musicals.

We hope you do too! And a chance for you to see, and for us to perform in a musical that’s hardly ever done, well, that’s a special treat for all of us. The Musical Theatre Guild was founded in 1996 by a dedicated group of professional musical artists who were interested in exploring and preserving works from the musical theatre repertoire that were either forgotten, neglected, or unfairly dismiss

ed. Working under a special Actors’ Equity Concert Staged Reading code, this concert format (books in hand) requires us to focus on the script and the score, eliminate unnecessary production values, and for our busy actor members, streamline the majority of the rehearsal process into one focused long weekend. The cast meets once or twice prior to the weekend for basic musical rehearsal. On Thursday and Friday, all staging takes places with a complete run through scheduled for Saturday. On Sunday afternoon we enter the theatre and add the technical elements and orchestra, and voila - it’s opening night! Our actors have all compared this experience with being shot out of a cannon. Not that any of us have actually ever done that feat - but you get the idea. This format enables us to take the risk to present works that other theatres would not dream to schedule, and features some of the finest talent in Southern California on our stage. We invite you to join us, and experience rare musicals TOGETHER. MTG is back at the Alex Theatre in beautiful downtown Glendale, CA. Fasten your seatbelts for APPLAUSE, Tony Award-winning musical inspired by the classic film All About Eve and the original story by Mary Orr. This rarely seen gem pulls back the curtain on Broadway life, centering on the battle of wits and ambition between stage legend Margo Channing and her cunning understudy, Eve Harrington.

In celebration of the life and legacy of the late Charles Strouse, we’re proud to present this high-energy homage to theatre itself—featuring his vibrant 1970s score, including the hits “Applause,” “But Alive,” and “Welcome to the Theater.” With lyrics by Lee Adams and a book by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green, APPLAUSE is packed with sass, wit, and heart, brought to life with MTG’s signature flair for rediscovering Broadway’s hidden treasures.
