Still decompressing from this crazy wonderful insane weekend at Burlypicks. The impostor syndrome will tell you that when your friends and family tell you that you have a good routine, it's just them being polite and nice to you. It's wholly another thing to have a bunch of judges tell you (twice now with regionals and nationals) that you're an award winning performer. I still suck at being a winner, I got very few photos of myself over the weekend but as always Burlypicks is such an awesome experience. The camaraderie, the sheer talent, the community... I know a lot of people will tell you that burlesque is just a "business," and don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to tell you they're incorrect, it absolutely is... But the heart of burlesque is that we're all performers and artists with stories to tell. We want to make the world think, laugh, cry, feel, and yes... Maybe turned on a little in the process (even if that process causes confusing feelings Elder Alknight). We want people to experience humanity. It is such an amazing art form that I wish more people would embrace and share.
I'm infinitely grateful to the people that helped me get to where I am. Chula Morena For inviting me to dive into this crazy world, Caitlin For always encouraging and believing that I should compete with this routine, Dirty Little Secrets Burlesque for constantly giving me a place to create, polish, and a breeding ground for new artists and amazing shows. Burlypicks for giving me a second chance after backing out of Burlypicks 2025 to do the group number. And thank you to the community for continuing to be supportive and welcoming to an ex-Mormon like myself.
Thanks to Harley Harpurr, Fannie Sinclair, Lily Misfit, Dare for their advice, encouragement, friendship, and being an awesome crew of LA baddies.
I feel honored and hope I get to continue doing this wacky stuff, and bringing Elder Alknight to more people in the future.
And lastly thank you to everyone that has come to a show, thrown dollars at us, and celebrated this amazing art form.
Thank you.
