It's been a while since we've shown any behind-the-scenes action! This is how we make the LED protectors for the Phoenix hoops. When we took over repairs of the original SpinFx Phoenix hoops we discovered that most of the broken LEDs were happening at the edge of a battery, caused by the battery getting slammed forward into the LED.

These protectors are part of the fix. We start with a sheet of tough Delrin plastic and laser cut these guards that are just a smidge taller than the LEDs. The guards go around the LEDs above each battery and virtually eliminate breakage of the LEDs.

The laser also cuts perfect little adhesive foam rectangles that get wrapped around each battery, preventing them from moving around or rattling, and also giving the hoop a cleaner look by hiding the batteries.

More than a year ago we started working on a prototype of an internal battery 5/8" hoop. It's a variant of the Hyperion Lite powered by lightweight LiPo batteries. A 29" hoop weighs about 8.6 ounces and in testing it's been getting about 2 hours of runtime. Charging is via USB C.

The project has been on the back burner because of other priorities. Now that we're in our slow season between summer and the holidays, putting it into production is a possibility.

We're considering offering a pre-order on the new hoop for $325, with an expected lead time of 4-6 weeks. It'll mean some investment in batteries and other components, and spending some time optimizing assembly processes, so this post is to gauge interest in the new hoop. If this is something you'd be interested in, let us know! We'll post more technical details below.
