Modeled off of Asian prayer spaces, The Ancestral Crypt is where viewers “can go with our q***r ancestors on the ancestral plane,” according to artist, Lauren YS.

Loose references to Tu’Er Shen (protector of the q***r) and Xiwangmu (queen of the femme) and Guanyin (genderfluid deity of compassion) govern the ideology of the space. The room has a sense of being underground, existing somewhere that feels both futuristic and ancient, with design centered on a neo-Asian feel mixed in with alien, futuristic, western and psychedelic influences.

Have you walked into this trailer, entranced by the siren song of otherworldly voices pulling at you from the radio? You sit for a moment, contemplating whose deserted trailer could this possibly be. Your ears perk up at the whooshing, ethereal almost-voices calling to you from the radio.

People pass in and out of the trailer, is it their voices pulled from another time, another space, to the present, in front of you in your ears? Possibly. Or is it the ghostly voices of another dimension entirely. Do they draw you in? Is it a warning? Is it a call to pay attention in your own reality?

Maybe it seeks to reach out from the Tave. To encourage you to find the pockets of your dimension that are a thin veil between ours and theirs. If there is a good place to find that veil, you’re certainly in the right place, in our House.
