Micaceous clay pottery is renowned for the natural, sparkling mica flakes in the clay that give the pieces a glittering golden finish. Potters hand-harvest the clay & follow ancient techniques that have been used by indigenous communities for centuries. The clay is hand-coiled, carved, burnished & fired in an outdoor pit. The smoke from the fire creates the unique smoke marks you see in this pot, making no two pieces alike.

Sixth-generation jeweler Joel Pajarito created the tab necklace, ring and earrings shown. Much of his inspiration comes from a blend of his grandmother Mary Coriz Lovato's traditional inlay work with his father Anthony Lovato's tufa casting. They feature Kingman and Sleeping Beauty turquoise, jet, coral, mother of pearl and melon shell.

For over 30 years, Kenneth Aguilar has been making his jewelry in another traditional style known to the Kewa Pueblo. The 10-strand necklace shown is made by hand-rolling Kingman and Sleeping Beauty turquoise, coral and jet into small beads that are then stacked into strands to form the finished necklace.
