Returning Monday Morning!
The Santa Fe Police Department is relaunching the Santa Fe Traffic Operations Program (STOP) on Monday with the deployment of automated compliance enforcement (ACE) systems. STOP will be deploying six trailer-based devices to capture speeding violations and improve driving behavior in our community.
Starting on August 31, 2026, a 30-day warning period will be in effect for all speeding violations captured by ACE systems and verified by SFPD employees trained to review violations. Registered vehicle owners will receive a warning notice in the mail letting them know of the violation, that the warning period is in effect and no payment for the violation is due.
After the warning period on October 1, 2026, all speeding violations captured by ACE systems and verified by SFPD employees trained to review violations will be mailed to the registered vehicle owner. The vehicle owner may choose to pay the civil penalty, nominate the person who was driving the vehicle if other than the registered owner, request a hearing with a designated civil hearing officer to contest the violation or to request to complete community service as an alternative to paying the penalty.
Speeding violations over 5 MPH that occur within a school zone or construction zone are $100.
Speeding violations over 10 MPH that occur in all other locations are $50 for the first violation. A second violation within a 2-year period from the initial violation is $100.
The initial deployment locations are:
Northside District II
2400 block of Zia Road
2600 block of Agua Fria Street
Southside District I
3200 block of Rodeo Road
7500 block of Airport Road
6700 block of Jaguar Drive
STOP will announce and share locations of ACE systems with our community on our social media pages. This is to ensure our community is aware of their location and to encourage proper driving behavior.
STOP is finalizing the roll out of automated sound enforcement. Once the automated sound enforcement is deployed, a 30-day warning period will be in effect before violations with civil penalties are issued.
Additional updates on STOP and the technology being deployed will continue to be provided as we prepare for October 1, 2026, when warning notices for speeding violations cease and penalty violations are issued.
