SAVE THE DATE: Sunday, September 20th, we're celebrating 100 years of Route 66 in New Mexico.

Join the Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, New Mexico History Museum, New Mexico Museum of Art and New Mexico Arts for Route 66 Community Day.

10:00 am: Car show kicks off downtown on Old Santa Fe Trail, across from the Roundhouse in the PERA lot.

12:00 pm: Car cruise heads up to Museum Hill for a second car show and demonstrations, discussions on the meaning and impact of Route 66 on New Mexico, plus the Dineh Tah' Navajo Dancers, music from the Trio and , story time and face painting.

Food trucks on-site: , , , , cloud_shaved_ice and

Not driving up to Museum Hill? Hop on the free shuttle, running continuously from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm between the PERA lot and Museum Hill. Last pick up at 5:00 and 5:30 pm.

Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country.
The updated and expanded 2027 Anthology includes classic and contemporary poems.
Poetry Out Loud is presented by National Endowment for the Arts and New Mexico Arts, a division New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs

The program starts in the classroom/school or at the local level with an area organization. Winners then advance to the state competition, and ultimately to the national finals.
The State Finals event will be held on Sunday March 7, 2027.

State & National Prizes: Each winner at the state level receives $200 and an all-expenses-paid trip (with an adult chaperone) to Washington, DC, to compete at the National Finals. The state winner’s school/organization receives $500 for the purchase of poetry materials. The first runner-up in each state receives $100, with $200 for their school/organization. At the national finals, a total of $50,000 in awards and school/organizational stipends are awarded.

Save the date to celebrate this year’s recipients of the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts!
We are pleased to present the eight arts luminaries for the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts:

Please join us on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to recognize and celebrate this year’s esteemed cohort of Governor’s Arts Awards honorees at a series of free, public events in Santa Fe.

2:00-3:30pm – The celebration begins with an opening reception for the 2026 Governor’s Arts Awards Exhibition in the Governor’s Gallery located on the 4th Floor of the State Capitol. Light Traditional biscochitos and non-alcoholic apple cider punch will be served.

5:00-6:30pm – The official awards ceremony will take place later that evening at the New Mexico Museum of Art's historic St. Francis Auditorium.

6:30-7:30pm – Immediately following the ceremony, everyone is invited to a brief reception in the Museum of Art courtyard featuring a celebratory sparkling cider toast and light bites catered by Santa Fe's legendary Walter Burke Catering.

These events are free and open to the community and do not require tickets or advance registration.

The Art in Public Places Program of New Mexico Arts is seeking an artist or artist team to create a site-specific, functional sundial for the new Spaceport Technology and Reception Center in southern New Mexico.

With a $300,000 commission, this is an extraordinary opportunity to create work that connects art, science, time, technology, the cosmos, and New Mexico’s high-desert landscape. The finished artwork will be permanently installed outdoors and accessible to visitors.

✨ The opportunity:
• $300,000 total project budget
• Open to artists and artist teams residing anywhere in the U.S.
• All media are welcome, provided they can withstand permanent outdoor installation in southern New Mexico
• Up to five finalists will receive a $4,000 honorarium to develop a proposal, plus travel support for the required site visit.

Important: At this time, they are looking for Qualifications, not a finished proposal. Submit examples of previously completed work that demonstrate your artistic style, technique, and ability to undertake a project of this scope.

📅 Application deadline: September 4, 2026, at midnight MDT
