We are thrilled to welcome Boris Ignatov to our next Masterclass in Barcelona - April 21 & 22

Boris Ignatov was born in Moscow. After studying classical philology and theatre studies, he worked as a music journalist for Moscow News and the radio station Echo Moskaus, as well as editor of the Bolshoi Theater magazine. In 2007 he accepted an invitation from the then director of the Paris Opera Gerard Mortier to join his team as a production assistant and later as a casting assistant. With the beginning of the 2009/10 season, he began a two-year stint as a casting manager at the Flemish Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. In 2012 Boris Ignatov became casting director of the Teatro Real, Madrid under the artistic direction of Gerard Mortier. From 2015 to 2017 he worked as artistic director and casting director at the Ruhrtriennale under the direction of Johan Simons.
Boris Ignatov was responsible for hiring famous conductors such as Semyon Bychkov, Teodor Currentzis, Sylvain Cambreling, Ivor Bolton, Thomas Hengelbrock, Tomáš Hanus, Alberto Zedda, Leif Segerstam, Dennis Russell Davies, Pablo Heras-Casado, Hartmut Haenchen, and René Jacobs. He also collaborates with the composers Christian Jost, Charles Wuorinen, Mauricio Sotelo, and Alberto Posadas, as well as the directors Christoph Marthaler, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Dmitri Tcherniakov, Peter Sellars, Johan Simons, Ivo van Hove, Pierre Audi, Tatjana Gürbaca, Peter Konwitschny, Nigel Lowery, and Martin Kušej. Starting from the 2018/19 Boris Ignatov serves as a casting director of the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
Fun Fact: Boris likes to hike, cook, and relax with a nice glass of wine. He also loves to give people their role debuts and develop careers.

Eitan Sorek is founder and general director of Sorek Artists. He studied voice at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and was a professional singer himself before making the switch to artists’ management. He regularly gives audition workshops for young singers at conservatories and opera studios and is a recurring jury member of the International Cesti Singing Competition in Innsbruck. He is a board member of the German-speaking countries Association for Opera and Concert Managements DOKA, a member of the Opera Committee of the International Artist Managers’ Association IAMA, as well as on the board of trustees of the Eva Kleinitz Foundation.

Brian Speck is Artistic Administrator for The Metropolitan Opera of New York, where he hears hundreds of singers each year in consideration for Met productions and is responsible for casting many roles in the company’s repertoire each season.

Prior to joining the Met, he served as Director of the Sarah and Ernest Butler Studio at Houston Grand Opera for eight years, recruiting singers and pianists and supporting the artistic and career development of the program’s artists. He is a regular adjudicator of competitions, including the Concurso Tenor Viñas, the Met’s Laffont Competition, Houston Grand Opera’s Eleanor McCollum Competition, the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition, Opera Index, and others. During his time at HGO, he spearheaded an effort to provide online auditions for artists, increasing access for singers across the opera industry, and was a leader in OPERA America’s Performer Development Network.
