ART-O-RAMA closed its doors on Sunday — a huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to see Nicolas Lebeau’s work in person.
Using printers he has hacked and modified, Lebeau produces distorted photographs shot between France and Brazil — fragile existences, clandestine workers, Brazilian immigrants in Paris, young people living on the margins.
Their damaged, glitched surfaces are a form of resistance: fragments sourced from Telegram channels documenting global conflicts and struggles are layered directly into the images. Low in data, marked by imperfection, these “poor images” refuse the demand for clarity and legibility.
By transforming them into physical, sculptural objects, Lebeau gives these unstable images weight and material presence — allowing them to escape the eye-that-sees-all of the urban space.
