Hey spring chickens!
The sun’s sticking around longer, the sourgrass is popping off, and the crabs are crab walkin—so let’s hang. Come through for a Spring Equinox studio hang at Little Giant Collective: drinks, doodles, and spring energy. We’ll have shared supplies and a prompt of SPRING—think wildflowers, tidepool creatures, shifting light, wiggly worms, or whatever is starting to bloom for you. Meet new art pals, poke around the Fun-A-Day show, and welcome the season in 🌸

Fun-A-Day started in Philadelphia in the early 2000s and was later brought to Santa Cruz and other cities across the country. It seeks to question who gets to make art and what an art practice looks like. it’s an opportunity to take your practice, seriously as much as an opportunity to take on something for fun

This year we invited folks to revisit the Fun-A-Day experience and make some art everyday for the month of January. This show is a collection of these daily practices.

Featuring: Jesse Kathan, Louise Leong, Stonehocker, Blaize Wilkinson, Ivy Kae, Kathleen Aston, Yulia Gilich, Marsa Greenspan, Nic Laflin, Sean Crossno, Mecaila Smith

Time Well Spent features liquid acrylic and ink paintings inspired by the 2025 Year of the Snake. The series explores the snake through varied approaches to line, movement, and form. Together with a few works outside the theme, the exhibition reflects a practice shaped by making time to enjoy the process.

It is time!
We hope that everyone who has been Fun-A-Daying this past month will be a part of the "Show and Tell" portion, and join us in the group show for March.

The opening will be First Friday, March 6th. We're asking folks to let us know that you have a project that you're planning on showing by signing up on the form in our bio, so that we can coordinate drop-offs and get information about your projects, process, art medium, etc.

Registration will be open until February 14th.

Happy new year, playaz. Next Mahjong Club meeting this Sunday, January 25 at home base, Little Giant Collective from 1-4pm. Come meet Louise's mom, F***y, and get schooled!

Carole Gibson who plays weekly at the Aptos Public Library will have a table to teach Chinese Classical rules. More info below. Give it a try! We will also be playing/teaching Hong Kong style, as usual.

There are over 40 versions of Chinese Classical Mahjong in the world today. One of the most exciting and interesting is British Mahjong Association Rules. It allows for creative strategic play and more time to “Go Mahjong” than the easier Hong Kong version. There is a well-illustrated rule book available that describes everything from the set-up to scoring to special hands.

Make some art everyday in January. Or just work on some form of art every day. Give something new a try or recommit to something familiar, whatever excites you. Then add what you create to the group show happening in March at Little Giant Collective.

Paint, write, draw, perform, film, collect, knit, crochet, bake, journal, sculpt, print, sew, photograph, collage... If you can think of it, it's art.

The first Fun-A-Day happened in Philadelphia in the early 2000s and was later brought to Santa Cruz with hundreds of participants over the years.

This year we invite you to give it a try. Do some art for the next 31 days. Invite your friends to make art too! Join the show in March, or keep it to yourself (but we hope you'll join our show and tell), just have fun!
