Choose the right photo and map out your dog’s features
Select china for its shape, pattern, color, and natural curves
Create expressive eyes, a dimensional nose, ears, and facial contours
Use a glass grinder and Dremel to shape and refine your pieces
Build dimension and expression with intentional placement
Tint and apply thinset and create the background
Make all those little adjustments that bring personality to your portrait
Solange and Alex create a Dachshund throughout the course. Follow along using their downloadable image, or bring a photo of your own dog and use their step-by-step process to create something completely personal.
And yes, Solange and Alex are from Brazil and teach in their native Portuguese, but we have translated and dubbed the entire course into English!
We have watched students with little or no experience use their methods to successfully create portraits of their own pets. Their process takes something that looks incredibly complicated and breaks it down into steps that make it feel possible.

We’re growing and evolving… and it’s time for a new name.

Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art is now Todos Retreats.

What started in Santa Barbara has expanded into something even bigger, hosting mosaic art retreats in Todos Santos, welcoming visiting artists from around the world to Todos Santos, and creating immersive creative experiences far beyond and around the world.

This new name reflects where we are today, and where we’re going.

We can’t wait to share more about our Todos Santos Mosaic Art Retreats, our incredible visiting artists, and our expanding retreats worldwide.

That’s a wrap on our last of three mosaic art retreats!

There are not enough words to express my gratitude for all the amazing humans that came all the way to Todos Santos to experience the Todos Santos Mosaic Art Retreat!

I wish our phones had a scratch and sniff option so you could smell the amazing food from our chefs and the incredible restaurants we ate at!

Many people say our retreat is a culinary experience with a mosaic workshop thrown in🤩

There is so much to share from these past few weeks here in Todos Santos… it’s been busy and productive in the very best way. ✨

We’ve already wrapped up two back-to-back retreats, took a little pause to breathe it all in… and now we’re set up and ready to welcome our third group.

I don’t usually host 3 of my own retreats in one season, but this year it just felt right, so I said yes. 💛

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I’ve also begun a 12 sq. ft. commission for a private residence here. It’s a blend of Mexican and Italian smalti, and I’ll be sharing more as it unfolds over the next few weeks.

Let’s just say… I’m breaking a few traditional mosaic “rules” and loving every minute of it. 😉

This is a glimpse into our life here… how we’ve created a rhythm that lets us live and work in our happy place for 2½ months.

And truly… we couldn’t be happier. ✨
