🇮🇹 Our Ravenna Mosaic Tour is officially underway! 🇮🇹

Our group arrived safely in Ravenna, and after giving everyone a day to settle into their beautiful accommodations, we jumped right into what we all came here for... MOSAICS!

We began at the MAR Museum, home to an incredible collection of contemporary mosaics from the 1950s to today. It is such a wonderful way to see how this ancient art form continues to evolve through the hands and ideas of contemporary artists.

That evening, we officially welcomed everyone with dinner at the Ravenna harbor at Cubana Trattoria, the family restaurant of our Ravenna tour hosts. Great food, new friendships, lots of conversation, and the perfect way to celebrate the beginning of our time together. ❤️

The next morning, we went back in time.

We met our guide for a three-hour tour through Ravenna’s extraordinary ancient mosaics. Ravenna is home to 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites, and 7 of them contain incredible mosaics. It was a BIG history lesson packed into a few short hours!

There is a reason we plan our tour this way.

We want our groups to experience both the contemporary and the ancient before they ever sit down to create their own mosaic. To see where this art form has been, how it has evolved, and how artists continue to push it forward today. By the time the workshop begins, everyone’s head is usually spinning with ideas and inspiration!

Today, we head out to visit two contemporary working mosaic studios, meet the artists, see where they create, and learn more about what it means to be a working mosaic artist in Ravenna, a city where mosaic art has been part of its identity for centuries.

And tomorrow... the highlight of our tour begins!

Three days at Arianna Gallo , learning alongside Arianna Gallo and her team. Each person will learn the Direct Contemporary Method while creating their own mosaic to take home, along with the memories, inspiration, and techniques they’ve gathered here in Ravenna.

And we’re only getting started! 🇮🇹❤️

🇮🇹 CIAO FROM VENICE! 🇮🇹

We have officially landed in Italy and the adventure has begun! ❤️

Our first of two Todos Retreats Mosaic Tour starts in Ravenna in just THREE days, and then we’re off to Siena for our second mosaic tour! I can hardly believe these two tours are finally here. So much planning and love have gone into each of them!

But first… VENICE! 🇮🇹🍷🍺

Before leaving Venice, we’ve squeezed in a couple of quick self-guided walking tours, which apparently for us include a stop at an Irish b**r pub. 🤪🍺 Pretty sure that’s not on the traditional Venice itinerary, but we highly recommend adding it!

We are staying on the island of Murano so lots of glass art to take in and learn about.

Today we had a quick but absolutely lovely visit with our MAO artist and friend Vera Likk . ❤️ There is much more from our time with Vera coming soon to the Mosaic Arts Online Instagram and YouTube channel, so stay tuned!

Now we’re off to squeeze in one more b**r pub before the BIG rainstorm rolls in. ☔️🍺😂

Then it’s Ravenna, mosaics, incredible artists, good food, good friends and the start of what I know will be a very special few weeks in Italy.

We’re growing and evolving… and it’s time for a new name.

Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art is now Todos Retreats.

What started in Santa Barbara has expanded into something even bigger, hosting mosaic art retreats in Todos Santos, welcoming visiting artists from around the world to Todos Santos, and creating immersive creative experiences far beyond and around the world.

This new name reflects where we are today, and where we’re going.

We can’t wait to share more about our Todos Santos Mosaic Art Retreats, our incredible visiting artists, and our expanding retreats worldwide.
