Before Christopher Tin, video game music was rarely performed in concert halls alongside classical masterworks. Then came Baba Yetu — the iconic theme from Civilization IV — which became the first piece of video game music ever to win a Grammy Award.

Tin helped redefine what game music could be: emotionally powerful, globally inspired, and worthy of the world’s great stages. Today, his music is performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House — and most recently, his reimagined ending for Puccini’s Turandot was heard worldwide during Olympic silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama’s skating performance.

We are thrilled to welcome Christopher Tin to the podium for Light & Flight, where he will conduct selections of his Grammy-winning music, including excerpts from Turandot.

One of the featured works on our season finale program is “Sogno di Volare” (“The Dream of Flight”) by two-time Grammy Award-winning composer Christopher Tin, who will join as guest conductor for this special concert.

After the worldwide success of “Baba Yetu”, Christopher Tin returned to the Civilization franchise to compose the main theme for Civilization VI — with less than a month to write, record, and mix the music. The result was "Sogno di Volare", an inspiring and soaring celebration of humanity’s enduring dream of flight and discovery.

LIGHT & FLIGHT, Sunday, May 31, 3pm (sold out) and 7pm, Trinity Lutheran Church, Santa Barbara. Tickets $30 at https://bit.ly/sbchoralmay2026
