Tonight I’m recording a podcast with my amazing, creative, long time friend for her podcast . It’s a music podcast but tonight we will be speaking about Witchcraft, history of the Witch & Magick. If you’ve been following me, you know this topic is so near & dear to me that it’s part of my makeup. I am incredibly interested in education & spreading understanding of the negative impact & harming of humanity the patriarchy & Christianity had & still has on Witches. Obviously there is more than the patriarchy & Christianity against it.
Over 200,000 “witches” have been killed, mostly burned, throughout history starting in the mid-1400s with the last burn account in the early 2000s in Europe. German monks wrote Malleus Maleficarum in 1486 (The Witch’s Hammer), a manual on Anti-Witchery. Throughout Scotland they believed that Witches were the cause of storms, illness & livestock death. King James I contributed to this hysteria when the death of his bride, Anne, happened in a storm while crossing the North Sea. He then published Daemonologie, another manual on how demons & witch’s conspire against humans.
Back then, ANY WOMAN who was considered DIFFICULT was claimed a witch & killed.
Let that sink in...
Christianity (a man-made religion) was on the rise & heavily contributed to the witch hunts & frankly, still contributes to the stigma around Witches & them worshipping the devil. Christianity adopted from old religions (the devil, trinity etc- do your research). Pagan stems from the Latin word Pagani meaning “people who live in the country” and paganism (people holding different beliefs than those of main world religions) were labelled devil worshippers and a lot of other names for that matter from Christianity.
Honestly I could talk about this for hours. The main thing I want you to walk away with is: do your research. Educate yourself. If you claim to be a Christian; maybe consider digging up some history around it. Faith is great but if it’s at the harm of others, is it really that great?
Learn about what Witchcraft is rather than blindly believing a stigma you heard or your disney level understanding of Witch.
I’ll share the podcast soon! 🔮
