Shaun Deller carves connection.

If you’ve ever watched Shaun work, you know it’s about more than shaping a piece of wood. Every cut is intentional. Every tool has a purpose. Every project begins with a simple piece of wood and the patience to see what it can become.

One of the things we love most about Shaun is the way he teaches. Whether you’re picking up a carving knife for the first time or returning to a favorite craft, he creates a space that’s welcoming, encouraging, and surprisingly relaxing.

This Sunday August 16, Shaun will be leading our Spoon Carving Workshop, where you’ll learn the traditional art of carving a functional wooden spoon from start to finish.

You’ll leave with more than a handcrafted spoon.

You’ll leave with new skills, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the timeless satisfaction of making something with your own hands.

A pile of lumber, a few tools, and a group of curious people. That’s all it takes. 🐦🏡

Today’s “Build a Bluebird House” Workshop was filled with teamwork, learning, and plenty of smiles as participants of all ages built homes for future feathered visitors.

This is what Kaniksu Folk School is all about: learning by doing, sharing skills, and creating something with your own two hands.

🐦 Build a Bluebird House for Dad (or Bring Dad Along!) 🐦

Looking for a meaningful Father’s Day gift that doesn’t come from a store shelf?

Join us on Saturday, June 20 from 10AM–12PM at Aster Garden Center for a hands-on workshop where you’ll build a nesting box designed specifically for Western Bluebirds.

Build one as a Father’s Day gift, or better yet, bring Dad along and spend the morning creating it together.

All materials will be pre-cut and tools provided, making this a fun project for beginners and experienced builders alike.

You’ll leave with a finished bluebird house ready to install at home and a deeper understanding of the birds that share our region.

Along the way, Kaniksu Land Trust board member and avid birder Rich Del Carlo will share fascinating insights into the nesting and migration habits of Western Bluebirds and how properly placed nest boxes help support local wildlife.
