🇺🇸 250 Years of America. More Than 135 Years of The Pringle Building.
As our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, we’re reminded that America’s story isn’t only found in history books—it’s found in the communities, streets, and buildings that have quietly stood the test of time.
Here in downtown Sandersville, one of those places is the Pringle Building.
Constructed around 1889–1890 by Coleman Robert Pringle, the building became home to Pringle Mercantile, beginning a legacy that has continued through generations. More than 135 years later, we are humbled to once again carry the Pringle name and serve our community from these same walls.
Think about all this building has witnessed.
Generations of families.
Economic booms and hardships.
Horse-drawn wagons giving way to automobiles.
World wars, celebrations, hometown parades, and everyday life.
For more than a century, the Pringle Building has adapted while remaining part of the fabric of Sandersville.
Over the years it has been home to many businesses and organizations, including:
• Pringle Mercantile
• Zimmerman Buick Dealership
• McCool Telegraph College
• A jewelry store
• The original Palace Meat Market
• The original Sandersville Progress newspaper
• Upstairs law offices
• Upstairs apartments, including the apartment of George Apple
• A furniture store
• Sears
• Hometown Appliances
• Cullens Supply
• Geo.’s Quarters
• Warthen Lane
• Glow Salon & Boutique
One of our favorite stories came from Judge McMillan, who shared that his father’s law office was upstairs. He remembered local attorneys gathering there between appointments to play checkers—a simple tradition that reminds us history isn’t made only by big events, but also by everyday moments shared with friends and neighbors.
In 2012, the building began another chapter when it became home to what many remember as Geo’s Quarters. Then, in 2024, we proudly restored the original name, Pringle Mercantile, as a way of honoring the vision of Coleman Robert Pringle and preserving a small piece of our community’s heritage.
Today, the Pringle Building is home to Pringle Mercantile, Nora’s, Cole’s, and The Pringle Building Event Venue. It remains a place where people gather to shop, celebrate milestones, support local business, and create memories of their own.
As America celebrates 250 years, we’re grateful to be caretakers of one small piece of that larger story.
History doesn’t belong only in museums.
Sometimes it lives in an old brick building on the corner of a small-town square, waiting for the next generation to write the next chapter.
