It's that time of year for Masque Unit to award scholarships to Marin County High School seniors who will be pursuing the performing arts as part of their higher education. We apologize we took such a long time to highlight our three 2021 recipients but here they are:

James Hisanaga – Tamalpais High School
James impressed us with her dedication to dance, with an emphasis in ballet. At the time she applied for the scholarship, her plans were to study dance (focusing on choreography), math, and biology in college, and I plan to keep these options open to me as possible careers. At this point in my life, I would equally love to be a choreographer, mathematician, or scientist, or maybe even an interesting
combination of those options (such as the math or science of dance).

Olivia Newcomb– Novato High School / Marin School of the Arts

We learned that Olivia was extremely dedicated to pursuing Musical Theater through her participation over 10 years with Cinnabar Theater, and continuing her performing arts education throughout all four years of high school in Musical Theater at MSA. She planned to attend University of Texas at Arlington and we know her high energy, high achieving personality will allow her to do great things in college.

Wyatt Tithof – San Domenico

We were very impressed by Wyatt's acting resume (both professionally and throughout his high school years). He appears to be on his way to landing a scholarship to Chapman. Here's what he sent us shortly after receiving his Masque Scholarship and it sounded like he was very excited for his university performing arts experience in Southern California (this quote was from last year):

“ I just wanted to say "thank you" for selecting me as this year's Masque Scholarship recipient! You're probably wondering where I'm attending next year... In the end Chapman won me over with their Dean's Scholarship and curriculum. I'm so excited and can't wait to start school! I have already been cast in a student film written by one of my friends from Interlochen Arts Academy who is a Sophomore at Chapman and in the Screenwriting program."

We just chose our 2022 Scholarship winners and will be posting the results soon.

Masque Unit is pleased to announce its second annual $1,000.00 performing arts scholarship winner…Zaid Dawsari from Marin School of the Arts at Novato High. Zaid’s scholarship application clearly demonstrated many years of participation in, and dedication to, multiple aspects of live theater (he’s been acting in theater since elementary school, and completed a four-year theater program in high school). His good grades, along with hard work on live theater productions resulted in acceptance into the highly selective Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutger’s University. Zaid plans to pursue a BFA in Lighting Design. His ultimate goal is to work on lighting for a Broadway production. Congrats Zaid, and we hope to see your name in lights one day!
