✨ How to Gently Remove Your Pot’s Lid After a Glaze Firing ✨

After a glaze firing, you might notice that any raw clay-on-clay contact can feel a little “sticky.” That’s just the magic of the kiln turning clay into ceramic, where a tiny bit of glass-former in the clay can cause these parts to just subtly fuse. But don’t worry! As long as there’s no actual glaze in between those seams, you can easily free the lid.

Here’s how: tap gently around the lid’s edge using something sturdy like a small rock or a kiln post. The goal is to create a little vibration to help the lid pop free. Just be gentle and careful not to smack any delicate rims too hard. And always do this over a table or a soft surface, just in case the lid decides to break free a little faster than expected!

Happy potting and careful lid-lifting! 😉🔓
