The results are in! Night one Folktale Winery & Vineyards was a smashing success. 16 competitors delivered their best sets to a sold out crowd and we ended up with our first 3-way-tie for 4th (the competition is all about the numbers) resulting in a top 7. With J. Richardson JAY RICH as our champion for the evening. Although closely behind was Tyrik Woods in 2nd and Alvin Duke Reid who placed 3rd but would have won without a time violation.

It’s night two of the 50th and we’re heading to another sold out event The Verdi Club hosted by the great Eric Schwartz ! Tickets are still available for our Saturday events Orinda Theatre and Journey Downtown . Don’t miss our semi-finals show The Faight Collective where the top 5 from each preliminary round join to make our top ten. Hosted by former finalist Dan Aguinaga . Not to mention our final night Club Fugazi Experiences hosted by past winner the legendary Johnny Steele

Off to a great start! We are officially sold out for night one of the 50th Anniversary of the San Francisco Comedy Competition! 16 competitors will take the stage Folktale Winery & Vineyards delivering their best sets in the hopes of placing high enough tonight and throughout this week to make the semi-finals. Hosted by hilarious SFCC alum Bhavna tickets are still available next week and at some of our other locations. Join us for some friendly competition and laughter.

Bio: 

Ava Val is a John Candy Award-winning comedian who’s featured multiple times across Canadian television broadcasters CBC, CTV, OutTV, and Crave. She’s also performed three times at the world-renowned Just For Laughs festival in Montreal (including for the Jo Koy Gala), in addition to writing on Canada’s longest-running comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes and featuring on Roast Battle Canada and Canada’s Got Talent.
With an untethered & energetic rockstar presence and an irrepressibly plucky outlook on life as a trans woman, Ava’s unique act continues to add to her reputation as one of the best young comedians to conquer Canada and bring her unforgettable act to the United States.

Bio: 

With an infectious smile and a relatable cadence Kimberly “Cookie” Williams leaves her touch on every comedy stage she touches. Back from the “Colour Me Comedy” festival in Edmonton Canada and an appearance on Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Jam on YouTube, Cookie Williams leaves you hurting from laughter. As the laughs continue the stages get bigger and brighter for Cookie. Come watch her compete in the 50th annual San Francisco Comedy Competition and see why she’s becoming a household name.

Let’s gooo! Our 29th competitor and 13th performer highlight reel for Week 2. Competing this fall in the 50th, Jamar Pitts! Jamar Pitts

Bio: 

Jamar is a San Francisco native and a rising star in the Bay Area comedy scene. He brings tons of stage presence, attitude and fresh perspectives to the stage. Jamar grew up in a family of jokesters as well an avid stand up comedy fan. Comics like Dave Chappelle, Patrice O’Neal and Mo’nique have inspired his own wild brand of comedy! He’s a paid regular at Alameda Comedy Club, Laughs Unlimited in Sacramento and has performed all over the Bay Area and West Coast including The Comedy Store in LA, Tommy T’s in Pleasanton and Cobbs & Punchline in San Francisco.

Bio: 

Alejandro Ochoa is a Stand Up Comedian based in San Francisco. He is a regular at Punch Line, Cobb’s, San Jose Improv, Laughs Unlimited and Rooster T Feathers. He’s also been a part of SF Sketchfest, SLO Comedy Fest, and Flyover. In 2025 he hit the road opening for Martin Amini.

Bio: 

Cathy Chao is an English-Mandarin bilingual comedian and actress based in San Francisco. She blends history, politics, pop culture, and technology trends with her immigrant experience, crafting a unique comedy style. She opened multiple times for Bobby Lee, Margaret Cho, Natasha Leggero, Bob Nelson, Joe Wong, Monique Marvez, Will Durst, Crystal Marie, and more. She won Second Place in the East Bay Comedy Competition, and Sac Town Comedy Best of Fest. She performed all over the world at the most well-known comedy clubs and theaters such as Improv, Laugh Factory, Gotham. She was the first comedian to perform at SF FBI headquarters.

Bio: 

Aliya, an award-winning standup comedian, Canadian academy award-nominated actress and writer, captivates audiences globally with her vibrant personality and sharp wit. As a standup comedian, Aliya has toured in Canada, Australia, SouthAfrica, UK and USA. She has performed at Just For Laughs, JFL42, Johannesburg International Comedy Festival, Seattle International Comedy Competition, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Chicago’s Breakout Festival and more. She was a semi-finalist in NBC’s Standup competition.
