64 looks good on you, Civic Center!

Today marks 64 years since the Marin County Civic Center’s Administration Wing opened its doors on October 13, 1962. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, this unmistakable Marin landmark has been turning heads ever since with its iconic blue roof, sweeping arches, golden details and one-of-a-kind design.

Six decades later, it’s still one of the most recognizable buildings in Marin. Not a bad birthday present to the county!

Warren Miller’s 77th film, Days Off, takes you around the world with skijoring in Banff, deep snow in Hokkaido, Alaska’s legendary spines, Chamonix’s high alpine and a family ski day in Deer Valley. Hosted by Katie Burrell, the film celebrates the places, people and adventures that make winter worth waiting for.

Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Marin County Civic Center to work with the natural landscape, not against it. The sweeping buildings follow the contours of the surrounding hills, creating a design that feels like it belongs right where it stands.

Wright described his vision as a way to “bridge these hills.” More than 60 years later, the Civic Center remains one of the most striking examples of his organic architecture.
