Last night I went to a corny, sweet,all about SanPedro play at the Warner Grand theater. They are using the 25th Streets Mosaic as their stage ambience. Two more performances today (10/21/23) @ 2 & 8 pm. Check it out! Cornerstone Theater Company is the ones behind the performance. FREE or “pay what you can”!

“Calling all lovers 💜 of the 25th Street Mural: Please drop off small cactus, succulent plants or cuttings (rooted or not) to the box pictured below. I’m planting every day and can also use mulch, gravel, slabs of slate or sandstone—all in an effort to fight off weeds until the garden is established. Watering 😇’s are also appreciated Any time. What there’s more! Big fat THANKS to The Kellogg Garden Supply in Carson because they donated organic garden soil , citrus & succulent amendment mixture to our beautiful mosaic mural parkway!!
The “out of pocket” cost for the volunteers was $1050. (Donations would be cool), also thanks to Doug Conley for donating the flagstone that helps out the design and a place to step.

Hey! What’s happening here? LynnDee, one of the volunteers of the 25th St. Mural had enough of the weeds competing with the mosaic. She has put together a team to make the parkway beautiful! If you want to help, well, we could figure it out. But weekends seem to be the times. I’m loving it!! Thank you LynnDee and your volunteers for your devotion to the mural!

San Pedro Live Bait Barge is a floating bait business right outside Cabrillo Beach. It’s open in the mornings (6am in the winter and 5am in the summer). They sell squid, sardines and mackerel. Beware, if you post a bad review about this company, all of San Pedro will come to the bait barges aid, so it’s futile.

Deadman’s Island:
Googling Photofriends.org with the LA Library and finding “Tales of Deadman’s Island” is a must. Quick read on a Halloween Evening! Be sure to wear your pirate attire. From 1813-1889 The name Morrito or “jutting”, “hill”, “nose” was used for the little out cropping of rocks that was in the LA Harbor until 1930 when it became part of today’s breakwater. It stood where Terminal Island Federal Correction Institution is today. 1836, Richard Henry Dana wrote about the little island and about a sea captain that was buried there. Possibly the outcome of mutiny perhaps? Arrrrr! The name Deadman’s Island is first recorded in the ships log of the USS Savannah when 6 sailors and a cabin boy were buried there after the last battle of the 1847 Mexican/American War. Read of the other 15ish bodies found on the island during its demolition. Two crane workers died during the two year process to add to its numbers. The 25th Street mosaic was made by a 22 year old who happened into the studio one day. He spent hours recreating the feel of the island and at least 12 skulls and coffins to help the ominous ambiance surrounding the islands memory.
