The Maker Faire Two-Minute Film Festival is back!

Makers, filmmakers, builders, costume designers, prop makers, miniature enthusiasts, practical-effects experimenters, we want to see what happens when you bring your skills to the screen.

The challenge? Tell us a story in just 120 seconds.

It’s FREE to submit and open to everyone, and selected films will be screened for audiences at Maker Faire Bay Area, September 25–27, 2026.

You don’t need a big budget or a professional film crew, either. One of last year’s finalists filmed their entire submission in a single afternoon. Gather some friends, build something weird, put on a costume, experiment with an effect, and see where your imagination takes you.

Submissions are open through September 8, so there’s still plenty of time to make some movie magic.

Happy Maker Monday!

This week, we're celebrating our Backyard Science & Tinkering Makers: the experimenters, researchers, artists, engineers, and endlessly curious people exploring chemistry, physics, energy, mathematics, and more.

This September at Maker Faire Bay Area, explore Efficient Spiking AI Toward Quantum Computing, investigating more energy-efficient approaches to AI; watch Enchanted Leaves | MicroDean Systems demonstrate copper electroforming live; experiment with light, prisms, reflection, and refraction through Luxtriplicata; and discover ArtAtomic by Kristin Henry, where science and mathematics inspire work created by hand and with code.

This is what we love about Maker Faire: science comes out of the textbook and into the real world, where you can meet the people experimenting with it, ask questions, and see where curiosity leads.

Together with his dad, this 9-year-old maker from Tokyo has created the DINO EGG Catch Challenge, an interactive robotics experience where visitors can drive a dinosaur robot, control its movements, or watch it complete the mission autonomously using AI.
