Reflecting on 2025 in regards to my artwork:

I made some art this year, some pieces of which I’m really proud. But overall, my momentum was slow. My motivation was pretty dormant, and I felt like my zest and drive for creating was either hibernating or spinning in on itself like a cocoon. 2025 felt heavy, and my focus continually returned to caring for other aspects of my life, requiring my full presence, energies and focus.

I know in my heart that sometimes creation is vibrant and visible, bursting at the seams with all the good stuff, while other times, it’s so quiet, it’s practically undetectable, burrowing far, far away from the surface. Being attuned to my own nature and rhythms is a form of self respect I am slowly cultivating.

These authors and books have allowed me to connect to myself and others deeply, while simultaneously expanding in ways yet to be determined. 🖤 -Emily

This commission allowed me to learn about some of the history of Guam, its people, and the land.

Featured in this painting are Sakman flying canoes, ingeniously designed for skilled and dynamic sea navigation by the Chamorro people of the Northern Marianas. They survived the destruction of European colonization….and are featured in an upcoming documentary

Also-the Guam Kingfisher bird, extinct from the wild for over 40 years has been successfully reintroduced into its habitat thanks to conservationists.

This was an extra special piece for an extra special family, whose heritage and spirit is made evident in the present day. 🖤
