As the Twin Peaks Mall started re-development of the mall, they unearthed a haunting history of our city and some of its more colorful citizens. As they broke ground, constructions crews discovered some sort of Time Capsule. Despite desperate warnings from local historians, the time capsule was opened. Work has now ceased due to work crews reporting inexplainable events. Some say the time capsule

was sacred and opening it released a magical phenomenon that opened some sort of portal into another time. Others think the capsule was cursed and when it was opened a dark demonic spirit was released. A paranormal team of investigators toured the site and they think it is a bit of both. An opening between past and present, heaven and hell, a sort of un-escapable Purgatory! During the month of October, you will have a chance to tour the construction site to see what you think…

Purgatory will NOT open this season at Tanger Outlet due to circumstances beyond our control.

It came down to the permit requirements the City of San Marcos had for us as a “haunted house” and the funding needed to meet those requirements.
This haunt was a fundraiser for ReGroup Foundation. As a nonprofit, our budgets are under a very public microscope. Most donors expect non profits to stay within a range of 70+% programs or mission, 20% or less on administrative expenses, and 10% or less on fundraising expenses. The alarm system required for the permit needed would have hit our administrative or fundraising expenses and that could have had negatively impacted our future donations and grants and ultimately our mission.

We truly appreciate all of the work our volunteers put into this project! It has not been in vain!
Many of the costumes & props will be used at a family friendly event at Tanger Outlets, San Marcos on October 20th.
