On behalf of Festival Mozaic, we extend our deepest condolences to Frank’s family, friends, and the entire KCBX community.

Frank was a cherished friend and longtime partner to Festival Mozaic, and his belief in the importance of music, the arts, and a vibrant community meant so much to us. His generosity, encouragement, and unwavering commitment to this community touched our organization and so many others.

We are heartbroken by this loss and deeply grateful for the many years of friendship and support Frank gave us. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, and he will be profoundly missed.

Frank Lanzone, who served as KCBX’s President and General Manager for nearly 46 years, passed away yesterday. No one was more dedicated to this station, our people, and this community than Frank. We are grateful for his decades of leadership, mentorship, and friendship. His impact on public radio is immeasurable, and we are heartbroken. We will miss him tremendously.

There is something so 𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 about live performance... that transcendent experience shared just one time with only those fellow artists and audience members. We thrive on that sense of community, and we are honored to share brilliant musicians like 2026 Artist-in-Residence Susan Cahill with San Luis Obispo.

On Sunday, October 25, the CPAC Experimental Theater will be transformed into a club-like venue, perfect for the afternoon's experimental programming. Festival Mozaic welcomes back 2026 Artist-in-Residence Susan Cahill, bassist and composer, for the exciting conclusion of her residency! On Sunday, October 25at 3:00pm join us for 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥: 𝐀𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 & 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐞 in the Experimental Theater at the Harold J. Miossi CPAC, Cuesta College.

In this eclectic and genre-defying performance, Cahill is joined by actor and composition partner Jon Wilkerson for 𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑑𝑟𝑎𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦𝑡𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑣𝑖𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑐 𝑑𝑜𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑠. Jazz pianist and Cal Poly jazz department chair Jamaal Baptiste joins Cahill for a lively mix of jazz standards, Cahill’s original compositions, and spontaneous improvisations.

Did you know that September is Classical Music Month? There are over 2,200 orchestras in the United States sharing classical music with their communities. Once a year, we have the incredible opportunity to bring together some of the most talented musicians from those prestigious orchestras around the country to create one all-star Festival Mozaic orchestra. The finale concert is the perfect culmination of our annual SLO Summer Music and Arts Festival, and we revel in the fact that the musicians so enjoy sharing the stage with each other for this epic closing event.
