San Luis Obispo Art in the Park

After three years of producing San Luis Obispo Art in the Park, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the event and cancel the September 5–6, 2026 show.

We would like to sincerely thank the many artists, patrons, volunteers, sponsors, city staff, and community members who supported the event during its run. We have enjoyed bringing talented artists and craftspeople to San Luis Obispo and appreciate everyone who helped make the show possible.

While the San Luis Obispo event is coming to an end, Steve Powers & Company, Inc. will continue producing Paso Robles Art in the Park, with shows held annually each April and November in beautiful Downtown City Park.

We invite you to continue supporting handmade arts and crafts by visiting us in Paso Robles, where our next show will be held November 7–8, 2026.

Photographer James O'Donnel of Arroyo Grande, Ca. will be exhibiting his excellent work at San Luis Obispo Art in the Park May 23-24 at Santa Rosa Park.

"I have, for as far back as I can remember, been intrigued, fascinated and driven by photography. I am a true believer in the phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words".

Photographs can do many things, tell a story, capture an event, evoke an emotion, bring back a precious memory, or express an artful interpretation of life. To me, photography is a way to express my thoughts and feelings about the subjects I choose to capture.

I enjoy the art, as well as the technical craft, of photography. Photography is a chess game of proper exposure, composition, depth of field, et cetera, as well as a translation of ideas into art, for interpretation by the viewer.

Since I was a child, I have dabbled with photography. In high school I set up a darkroom and processed and printed black and white photos for myself and friends. While in the military, I recorded my exploits overseas. When hiking in the Sierras I captured memories of beautiful scenery that many people I know, have never or will never experience. I have recorded many photos of life's important moments, for myself as well as clients, family and friends. To this day, I continue to be driven and intrigued, with the art of photography.

I love to try new techniques, and ways to capture and process my photographs. I work to refine the processes that define my work, and my vision for a photograph. I believe, if I am not moving forward, then I am not learning, and I want to always be learning.

Today, with the advent of the "Digital Age", capturing and processing photographs is faster, and allows me as a photographer, more ways to create the photographs I envision in my imagination. It seems, many times, that almost as soon as I process a photo, I have already imagined another way to process it. I am never bored!"

About Tyler

After graduating with degrees in landscape architecture and business from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I've pursued creative and entrepreneurial opportunities from this special place that I continue to call home. I am a licensed California landscape architect, but the simple process of creating beautiful things both with and for other people keeps me excited about my work. Color and balance are both major themes in my creative pursuits.

I love to learn new skills, to explore new places, connect with people, try new foods, and generally experience the beautiful region I'm blessed to live in. The Central Coast's golden sunsets, signature peaks, creeping mists, iconic landmarks, ancient trees, grassy slopes, and rolling hills infuse most of my oil paintings and inform much of my landscape design. My paintings come to life using just a palette knife, a style aimed at capturing the interplay of harmonious colors, organic shapes, and the fluid dynamism found in nature.

Additionally, you may find me developing websites and logos, helping other entrepreneurs build their brands, and assembling terrariums and reclaimed wood furniture; hence, the all-encompassing Ellison Designs. I also keep a few treatment-free bee colonies (honey occasionally available) with friends and play various musical instruments.

Woodturning is my passion! It all started about 30 years ago when I was making furniture. All it took was one demonstration (I saw a natural edge bowl created in less than an hour) for me to know that’s what I wanted to pursue. It’s been 26 years and I’m still inspired to make shavings fly and enjoy the process from start to finish.
Whether I’m rough turning a piece that will become an urn down the road, or creating a natural edge piece that will take its own shape as it dries, it’s the process that keeps me inspired.
My inspiration comes from the wood itself. Every piece is different in color, texture, scent, and character. Some pieces are turned green and I find it fascinating how they warp and distort into finished pieces. Others, such as lidded boxes, threaded urns, and salad bowls have to be rough-turned and left to dry and stabilize. They are then remounted and turned to finish their shape, and will actually dry and stay symmetrical.
The wood may come from anywhere in the world, but much of it is sourced locally (on the Central Coast of California). These include walnut, olive, buckeye, acacia, and oak. Some of my more exotic pieces are created from Australian burls, koa, milo, and ebony.
The shape of the pieces are equally as important as the wood. Whether they are the classical shapes from the past or the natural-edge pieces that warp into their own shape, my goal is to make them all pleasing to the eye and touch.

Artist Ana Boaz will be exhibiting her colorful originals at SLO Art in the Park May 23-24 at Santa Rosa Park.

Ana Boaz Gorham, a local artist born and raised in Pismo Beach, California, discovered her love for art at a young age. Over the years, she has delved into various mediums including canvas, acrylic, watercolour, and ceramics.
Though Ana always had a passion for creating, it was the arrival of her firstborn son, Blue, in 2023 that ignited her drive to elevate her art to new heights.
Since then, she has produced hundreds of paintings, continuously exploring and evolving her style. Drawing inspiration from the breathtaking beauty of the Central Coast and the vibrant colour palettes of her Latin heritage, Ana aspires to make the world a little brighter with her bold and colorful abstract creations.
