Camino Real Playhouse is seeking a Set Designer and Set Builder for paid, non-union contract positions for our exciting upcoming season in our newly renovated home in San Juan Capistrano!
Our upcoming season includes Mainstage and Stage 2 productions such as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, A Christmas Story, ShowOff! 2027 and Gypsy.
We are currently looking for:
Set Designer
Collaborate with directors and production teams to create visually engaging and practical scenic designs that support each production’s artistic vision. Designers are expected to attend production meetings and tech week.
Set Builder
Help bring productions to life by constructing scenic elements for a variety of shows throughout the season. Experience with woodworking, construction, scenic painting, and theatrical scenery is preferred. Builders should also be available during tech week as needed, including coordinating and assisting with load-in of scenery constructed off site.
We are also open to hearing from candidates who have experience in both scenic design and construction and may be interested in serving in a combined role, depending on availability and production needs.
Successful candidates will be dependable collaborators who can work within production timelines and meet build and design deadlines. Ideal candidates are:

• Comfortable working within schedules and budgets
• Passionate about live theatre and storytelling
All productions take place in San Juan Capistrano, California.
