Oceanite Aquarium Services

Oceanite Aquarium Services 20+ yrs helping aquarium owners keep tanks clean & thriving. Maintenance in the Bay Area + virtual help anywhere in the U.S.

With over 20 years of hands-on reefkeeping experience, I offer aquarium maintenance in the Bay Area and virtual consultations worldwide. My approach is rooted in transparency. If I recommend a product, it’s because I’ve personally used it and believe in it. If I haven’t, I’ll tell you that too and share what I’ve heard from others in the community. I also understand that no two aquariums are the s

ame. That’s why I take the time to listen and learn about your tank before offering guidance. This isn’t about generic, one-size-fits-all advice—my goal is to give you practical, tailored support that helps your system thrive. As hobbyists, we grow together—and through sustainable, responsible reefkeeping, we can support both our tanks and the oceans they draw inspiration from.

Out with the old, in with the new.

A look behind the scenes at one of our recent aquarium upgrades. Replacing an existing reef system with a new Waterbox Aquariums 190.5.

This project involved a complete breakdown of the previous aquarium, temporarily housing the livestock, removing the old system, positioning and leveling the new aquarium, transferring the established rock and livestock, adding new substrate, and rebuilding the filtration and control system around the new setup.

Behind the scenes, the system is being managed by a GHL Advanced Technology GmbH ProfiLux 4.1 controller and Doser 3.0, giving us centralized monitoring, control and automated dosing as this reef develops.

The result is a much cleaner installation with substantially more room for the reef to grow.

And we're not quite finished yet!

The current lighting is temporary... a new GHL Mitras LX8 lighting system will complete the setup.

More from this build coming soon.

This one came a long way. 👀

When I first saw this 75-gallon reef, it had been running for years but had become completely overrun with bubble algae, bryopsis and accumulated detritus.

The goal wasn't to tear it down and start over. It was to bring the existing system back.

Over the following months, we tackled it methodically with manual algae removal, deep cleaning, sandbed restoration, water changes, nutrient management, equipment improvements and, eventually, rebuilding the livestock and coral population.

Now it's back to being a reef tank worth looking at. 🪸🐠

Another job completed!

Sometimes the best upgrade isn't adding new equipment... Instead, it's organizing what you already have.

This client wanted a cleaner, more serviceable way to manage the electronics behind their reef aquarium. We developed a plan, selected a dedicated equipment cabinet, relocated the existing Apex equipment and accessories, and organized everything into a much cleaner layout.

The result delivered...

✅ Easier maintenance
✅ Better cable management
✅ Faster troubleshooting
✅ Room for future expansion

A well-organized system doesn't just look better, it makes owning a reef aquarium less stressful.

Swipe to see the before and after.

At Oceanite Aquarium Services, we provide hands-on consultation and maintenance for aquarists throughout the Bay Area, and virtual consultations nationwide for anyone looking to achieve long-term stability.

Reliable automation starts with a plan. 👌

This client wanted a more hands-off approach to monitoring water chemistry while maintaining the consistency needed for a thriving reef.

After discussing their goals, we recommended and installed a combination of the GHL KH Director and ION Director to automate testing of key water parameters and provide better visibility into what's happening inside the aquarium.

The result is a system that can collect data automatically, identify trends earlier, and reduce the amount of manual testing required.

Every system is different. The best automation solutions aren't always about adding more equipment—they're about selecting the right tools and configuring them around the owner's goals.

If you're considering aquarium automation and aren't sure where to start, feel free to reach out.

Project day is getting closer.

The equipment for a new 300-gallon freshwater build just arrived, and we'll be transforming an empty tank into a fully functioning system designed for long-term stability and easy maintenance.

✔️ Fluval FX6 filtration
✔️ Biological cycling materials
✔️ Water circulation upgrades
✔️ Heating and water management equipment

Looking forward to sharing the progress as this one comes together.

Hey guys,

I've been seeing a lot of tanks lately that look fine at a glance… but are slowly drifting off track.

It usually comes down to small things stacking up like inconsistent maintenance, equipment not dialed in, or just not enough time to stay on top of it. With the weather warming up and summer around the corner, this is when tanks tend to get a little less attention… and that’s when problems start showing up.

I’ve started taking on a few more maintenance clients in the South Bay to help keep systems stable and running the way they should.
Also offering vacation coverage if you’ve got any trips coming up and don’t want to leave things to chance.

If your tank doesn't feel quite right, or you just want a second set of eyes on it, reach out. I'll be happy to take a look and give you honest feedback. Most of what I do is helping systems stay consistent long-term, not just cleaning them up.

Mention this post and I’ll honor $125/hr for maintenance (normally $150).

Consults are available as well (virtual or on-site) if you just need guidance without ongoing service.

Think your lights are dialed in?

Different corals belong in different light zones — and without mapping, you’re probably guessing more than you think.

I offer professional PAR mapping as a standalone service or as part of a full system assessment. You’ll get clearly defined light zones, coral placement guidance, and data-backed adjustments.

If you’ve never mapped your tank, it’s time.

Bay Area on-site service available.
DM “PAR” for details.

A stable reef changes how you experience the hobby.

Generic solutions miss what makes each system thrive.

Automation isn’t just about adding equipment. It’s about designing a system that works for both the client and the service team.

Recently, I collaborated with to implement a GHL KH Director and refine the ProfiLux 4 + dosing setup for one of their client tanks.

The goal here wasn’t just automated alkalinity testing.

It was:
✅ Smarter feeding modes
✅ More predictable stability
✅ Cleaner service visits
✅ A system the client can actually live with

When automation is programmed intentionally, it reduces guesswork and creates long-term consistency.

Grateful for the collaboration. This is what happens when thoughtful service and well-planned automation work together.
