Celtic Society of The Monterey Bay shares news of the passing of longtime supporter of all things Celtic, Bob Breheny. Irish singer Michael Black offers a remembrance in Bob's honor at the link below.

The Celtic Society formed in 1989 to promote traditional music, and Bob Breheny stepped in during the early 1990s to serve as the president and concert director. He was widely recognized as the true heart and soul of the organization, working for years to bring major international Celtic musicians to the Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz areas. 🎻

We’re excited to share an early look at the future home of the San Francisco Irish Famine Memorial. ☘️

Overlooking the Golden Gate, this dedicated public space will commemorate the victims and survivors of the Great Famine of 1845–1852 and recognize the enduring story of Irish immigration, perseverance and resilience.

The memorial is being designed as a contemplative and educational space, incorporating memorial artwork, historical storytelling plaques, landscaped plantings, a green trellis and subtle pathway and architectural lighting. Together, these elements will create a welcoming place to reflect, learn and remember.

The photo below shows the site where the memorial will take shape - a remarkable San Francisco setting for a story that has connected Ireland and America for generations.

We look forward to sharing much more as this important project moves forward. ☘️

RE:VISION schedule is live, and tickets on sale

This program spans 18 countries, and genre doesn’t constrain it any more than geography does. Fantastical? Try The Outcasts (Ireland, 1982). Midnight movie energy? Los leprosos y el s**o [Lepers and S*x aka Santo vs. The Riders of Terror] (Mexico, 1970) is calling your name. Something more experimental? The Waiting Room (United States, 1973) will be right up your alley.
Moving images have been part of our collective consciousness for around 130 years now, and Re:Vision spans eleven of those decades, tracing the style, genre, and format shifts across the history of the moving image.
Fourteen screenings over four days. Each feature is paired with a complementary short, some programs open with additional shorts, and even the pre-roll has surprises in store, so don’t miss a minute.
SFFP Members get 20% off all tickets and $50 off festival passes: one more great reason to join today. https://filmpreserve.org/memberships/
